Its really a gigantic challenge. Stopping the run, whilst remembering they are allowed to throw the ball too.

Having just played Stanford could help us some as we tamed the Stanford rushing attack to nearly nothing. Ohio State comes off the bus rushing the ball.

Only problem was we made Hogan look like a future first rounder. We completely forget they had a tight end on their team and a couple of wide outs.

Those two OSU QB's are certainly no better throwers than Kevin Hogan. Matter of fact it could be said they are both pretty lousy passers.
But if we sell out stopping the run as we did against Stanford, we can't forget about covering receivers. Otherwise those two OSU who are pretty bad throwing the ball...even they will look world class.

OSU has not faced an offense as athletic as ours.
We have not seen a pass rusher like Bosa. I doubt they keep him away from Stanley all game. Matter of fact I'm sure he is lobbying to play on Stanley the whole game. That will be a huge battle within the game. Our tackles on Bosa.

Our d line has to be very active and disruptive. They did a good job against the run vs. Stanford but took passing plays off ....except for one face mask that helped seal their fate.

Elliot might be the toughest to tackle running back ND has faced. I fear our terrible tackling will allow Elliot to have one of those record type Fiesta days.

We will score points as usual but can we get stops on third down will be the deciding factor.

We shall see

I'm guessing Kelly's plan will be similar to that of Stanfords. Our CB's will be playing a lot of man coverage again. I'm hoping with Jones back at NT we can maybe drop one more on 2nd and third downs. I'm sure this will be no surprise to Meyer.

I believe they might be the best team in the country. I'd rather play anyone else -- Clemson (had 'em beat), MSU (we always beat then), Okla (Kelly knows how to beat Stoops), Stanford (had 'em beat), even Alabama (one-dimensional offense -- and a better matchup this year compared to '12)...

The two match ups that I don't want. OSU and Oregon. That said, bring 'em on!

Go Irish

I agree, and I think most agree they should be in the playoffs. That's what would make this win so great.

EE is a different runner; but SU's OL is at least as good as tOSU's OL.

I agree they might be the best and most talented team in the Country, but disagree about playing them. I love the fact we are playing them, and it will provide a real good barometer of how far we have come and how far we have to go. Lots of legitimate concerns about the defense, and OSU clearly has the talent to route any team on any given day, but I for one am looking forward to this more than any other game since the NC. Our OL needs to control their DL, and that is a tall order, but a great game within the game, and one I think we can win.

Everyone is judging them because of 1 game. If the Mich game was 17-10 would they be saying the same thing? their schedule sucked with non conference games against Hawaii - Northern Illinois ( which was only a 7 point win) and western Mich. The whole Big sucks except State scum and OSU. They have not played a team as talented as ND all year.

Nice post.
Jaylon Smith is the best tackler on the team. 15 tackles against Stanford. He may get over 20 against Ohio State unless he gets some help from the rest of the D. Having Jaron Jones in the dline rotation may help.

ND will slow down their run game. OSU is not a high powered pass offense. Everything they do is predicated on the run and zone read with their QB. If the Irish can slow them down, make them kick field goals a few times, I think ND will win. They won't stop them. OSU is too good for that. ND can score a lot once they get rolling. ND 38 OSU 31. I think it will be a very good game by both teams. ND makes one or two plays that will be the difference. Go Irish!!

I think getting J.Jones back is going to be the key for ND's front seven woes. He will do a better job at eating up blockers at the line and keep them from getting to the second level. He's also a good run stuffer and can collapse the pocket on pass plays. ND has to do what MSU did by taking away the run and forcing them out of their game plan. And, on offense ND has to take care of the ball and convert their red-zone opportunities into TDs. I like this match-up a lot and believe it favors ND.

In case you want to do some reading up. Here are the Ohio State / MSU games, and the Ohio State / Michigan games. A tale of two offenses

Ohio State / Michigan

Couldn't find a short version of 'The Game'. Kind of sucks but oh well. Still good watches.
