It depends.
Of course, a deaf person can't hear verbal audibles etc during the game. Tee plays defense, so if changes can be relayed to him via hand signals or something he'll be fine. Some coaches (and teammates) don't want to bother, then it becomes almost impossible.
I'd think it would be harder if he played offense. I remember back in the early 1960s PSU had a deaf running back (and a relatively good one at that). Their solution was that the QB could NOT call audibles when he was in the game. He was drafted by the Jets, who had Namath as QB … of course those of you who saw him play remember how he audibleized almost every play … so that deaf guy just couldn't fit in and he was cut. He became my coach during my college years and later coached HS football in Pennsylvania.
