He isn't hurting for cash he also has the Under Armor payout. It is kinda cool that McGraw was paid more to coach at ND than he was.

Actually the part I liked the best is that ND is willing to pay over 1 million to the DC (even if the DC sucks). That is still behind the 1.5 to 1.6 the DC in the SEC gets. But it is a huge step in the right direction.

When you consider the state the ND program was in when Titanic left, it is not surprising that the AD over reacted with Weis. After all we came within an illegal 'bush push' of taking down a team considered by many at that time one of the greatest of all time. That first year it seemed we had found 'the guy' and when it looked like he might leave (got to credit his agent for playing ND like a piano) there was a LOT of pressure from the alumni to lock Weis in.

now in the end it was mostly fools gold. Weis is not a good HC. Which is why you should never hire a HC who has never been one before. No matter what credentials he might have as a OC or DC. The one GOOD thing Weis did was prove you could still get top talent to come to ND. Remember all those that claimed we could never get the top talent to come here anymore?

You have got to wonder about Kansas who then took on Weis after he had demonstrated he was not a good HC.

Now for his haters who claim such DRIVEL as no one ever did less for more they need to get off their fat and stupid rear ends and do a little research. They will find other coaches who did less and were paid more.

Under Armour pays him with free apparel that is 2 sizes small.....

I agree with earlier posters, something is seriously wrong with our system when I failed football coach gets paid that much. Thanks DR. White.

I'm thinking that every single person here would have taken the money if offered. If anyone says they wouldn't then they are lying. All your anger is misguided. The finger should be pointed straight at the administration and only them. I didn't hear anyone complaining about Charlie's credentials immediately following the '05 season. Everyone was all in and rewriting history for the sake of the argument won't change that. Kansas doesn't have a storied football program no matter the HC. They haven't had a winning season in 8 years. They won't win until they can land some recruits. Their last few recruiting classes were made up of two and three star recruits.Their last four star was in '14. That won't fly. Who is out there that can change the culture at Kansas? Hiring Weis at Kansas was the best that program can do under the circumstances. You can blame Charlie Weis for global warming if you want but it goes much deeper with his tenure at Kansas.

that's current coaches. none of them will ever smell the amount of money weis got for being awful.

I think bo schembechler tops every list of suckitude. He's currently hiding behind a molten lava rock in Hades as that huge nosed psu coward sniffs him out.
rodriguez' stint at um was a thing of beauty too..... 15-22 .....that was off the charts awesome.

In all big Charlie walked away with over $40 million from ND all thanks to his agent Bob LaMonte who took AD Kevin White to the cleaners big time. While there White actually taught Management classes in ND's business school! Wonder if he had a class on how to spend OPM? White also hired George O'Leary and Tyrone Willingham and his daughter attended Duke University!

actually YOU are the one that said NO ONE EVER DID LESS FOR MORE.

So YOU prove it.

Guess what you POS= you cannot prove your garbage
please show me one coach who was given more money for less results than charlie weis was for his stints at notre dame and kansas. no one EVER DID LESS FOR MORE.

With the ridiculous amount of money involved, and the fact that two different schools got themselves caught up in it, it's hard to believe that anyone could have ever been paid more for less productivity. And I don't begrudge Charlie one bit for it. You negotiate the best deal you can, given the circumstances at the time, and that's the deal you take. If there's a "shame on" here, it's shame on ND and, especially, Kansas.

Not picking a fight. But I think the numbers are in that Charlie was worse than any coach on that list.

Holgorsen: Conference Championship and Orange Bowl win.

Sumlin: Although someone should beat him with a wrench for giving us Johnny Manziel. He won his "05 Bush Push" type game against Bama. Where Charlie never even had a signature win.

London: He was at Virginia, trying to turn around a team that has never been all that good to begin with. And he damn near knocked off ND last year. While I admit he was overpaid. His salary was far less than Charlie

Ferentz: 2 B1G titles, (lost last year's by 3 points), Orange Bowl win, and managing to do all of that at Iowa. Who the hell wants to go to Iowa? At least ND football players walk out of ND with an ND degree.

Leach: They mention he has 3 seasons with a total of 12 wins at Wazzu. Again. A school that gets very little in the way of good players or money heading it's way. Charlie had Notre Dame and was supposed to have these great recruiting classes. Plus all the money ND could throw at it. And he managed 16 wins in 3 seasons. While getting paid more than Leach was.

Again. I can't think of just about any modern head coach at any P5 level team that was paid better than Weis to deliver worse results.

Link about the forty million, please. According to articles, I read the buyout total was just shy of nineteen million. Where does the other 21 million come into play?

Odd how all this became rehashed news again. (article linked is from 2013)

Hi Alice,

All you have to do is add up all of big Charlie's total income while at ND plus the buy out and remember there were a lot of items in addition to cash Including a $1 million paid up annuity plus a huge paid up whole life insurance policy. $40 million may actually be a tad conservative. Bob LaMonte didn't miss a trick and included everything you can imagine but the kitchen sink. Kevin White went for it hook, line and sinker and LaMonte ate him alive!

"LaMonte ate him alive!" That's hard to do with weis in the room.

Same thing with some senior management industry guys who performed poorly but made out like bandits.
