Have conceded . Next year they will be happy will 8-4 ,( don't see how we become 10-2 , 9-3 program after a dismal 4-8 ),under the guise that we are rebuilding the program. Our recruiting is supposedly top 12-15 every year and we continually lose to teams lesser talent . And as far as talent , we are not getting any real difference makers particularly on the defensive side . Our wide receivers are good but not great this year . Losing Fuller,Chris Brown , A,
Carlisle, A Jones,C Robinson ,A lot of talent . Our tight ends are decent , but there was a big drop down compared to the past 12 years, pro players like Faisano ,Carlson , Rudolph, Eifert , even Ben Koyak and A. Jones ( this year)

Last years team was loaded , we lost a lot ,Stanley, N. Martin ,Elmer, Fuller ,Brown , Carlisle ,Robinson,Smith , Day, Shumate, Russell , Redfield , Okwara, Procise, and we really haven't reloaded

Now Swarbrick . What are the realistic expectations ? Is the administration avoiding the fact that it is going to take a few years to become a top 10 team , maybe In Kelly's 10 th year.

Most of the Irish die- hard fans don't see that much improvement under Kelly and more lost time before we get a top flight coach

Kelly will fail again and again!

The inevitable is exactly that! Why delay the decisions that are necessary? Because ND football is no longer an institutional value or priority. I am trying to come to grips with cheering on a team that doesn't really exist as I know it. But it just is a different team, insitution and value system. I do not really recognize it. The only tie to it is to a memory, and that s a struggle to defeat.

The only reason he is around is because Jack made an offer to extend his contract. The sad thing is he would probably already be gone if it weren't for the money. Like so many other things it is only about the money. There are student athletes at stake and an entire university that has values to uphold So in other words, we have a coach who is only coaching because of a mistake to offer him a contract extension. Now cognitive dissonance is not allowing for people to admit they were wrong and fire a terrible coach when they know it is the right thing to do

Absolutely correct. If the contract had been a more reasonable and realistic extension of say 3 or 4 years and not 6. That alone would of saved ND a good $9m or $13m.

Would of made parting ways w/ BK much easier - right now - vs. having a large financial burden hanging over your head.

IT is all about $$ - I think Jack knows he needs to part ways w/ BK and will if the $$ thing can be worked out - if not - we will be stuck w/ BK for another season -

The problem ND has - is that BK is now being viewed as a lame duck coach by the college football world and other coaches will use that against BK in recruiting - in the end - if BK stays - It will be a miracle if BK can still finish w/ a respectable recruiting class.

Bad mistake with the extension. I think that is why JS is laying low and has not said a thing. He is currently laying in the fetal position underneath his desk hoping that BK takes another job - Oregon, Purdue, pro, anywhere, and gets JS off the hook.

Now that's hilarious!

Notre Dame football has been surviving for a very long time. Welcome to the present.

I don't know how Notre Dame could offer a contract similar to the Weis extension? The extension should have come some clauses. If employed at any time after parting ways the contract is null and void. Or, if employed elsewhere Notre Dame will pay the difference if said job pays less than agreed upon in the contract. If terminated for lack of success ie not doing your job and going 4-8 you will receive half of the worth of the contract in full to basically do nothing.

You would think after the godawful Weis contract that there were many clauses in BK's extension to mitigate some of the cost of potentially being rid of him. To not have those protections in place would demonstrate a new level of administrative buffoonery not yet seen since the program jumped the shark 20+ years ago.

It is mind boggling - but colleges get taken advantage of all the time by smart / smooth talking sales people / agents, etc. That agent for BK is one shrewd negotiator - he snookered the shoes off a very smart man in JS. JS made the mistake of becoming personal friends w/ BK.

Yep, the JS man crush on BK definitely complicates things.

How do you know the contract doesn't have those things? Or similar clauses?

You rub many the wrong way which is fine. I just try to keep people from thinking im a troll. In all seriousness this may be one of your better more well thought out posts! Congrats you summed up exactly how i feel. Thats why when i say something here about losing faith in what i grew up on. Your labeled a troll or your insensitive to the plight? If we were a perrenial power?I'm sure the board material would be more pleasant! Is it better to just slowly let go? Or just come to terms with the fact that Notre Dame does not love us as we love her?

A jilted lover...

Why a mistake to extend a coach who's winning 9.16 games a season (6 years) going into the 2016 season. We need to remember that it was really a three year extension to his current contract coming off a 10-3 season. Very few people saw the train derailment coming in 2016. ND was preseason #8 in the AP poll going into the season.

Jack and Kelly both need to be fired. The program is a laughingstock of college football.
