Good news: Sugar Bowl tickets are not ridiculous. Stubhub has pairs for as low as $237 each including fees. (I did not request Sugar Bowl tickets as a season ticket member).
Bad news: Only non-stop flights from Chicago to New Orleans are on Southwest and they are > $1100 round trip. I absolutely loathe flying when there are layovers.
Told my son I'd take him if he's willing to do the 13 hour road trip.
