Senior Mario Lucia scored the game winning goal at the 11:45 mark of the third and final period to give No. 13 Notre Dame a 3-2 victory and weekend sweep of New Hampshire on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center (5,991). It was Lucia's sixth goal in the last six games and his ninth career game winner.

Notre Dame extended the nation's longest active unbeaten streak to 12 games (9-0-3) and is now 14-4-7 overall and 10-1-2 in the 12-team Hockey East Association. This is Notre Dame's longest unbeaten streak since going 17-0-3 from Oct. 31-Jan. 17, 2009, and it is now the fifth-longest in program history. .New Hampshire dropped to 8-12-4 overall and 2-6-4 in Hockey East.

Senior Thomas DiPauli gave Notre Dame a 1-0 lead in the first period with his ninth goal of the season, and then sophomore Jake Evans made it 2-0 early in the second period with his fifth goal of the year before New Hampshire knotted the score at 2-2 to enter the third.

The stat of the game was Notre Dame's special teams limited New Hampshire to `1-of-8 on power play chances (NH was one of the best teams in the country in power plays), and 1-of-11 for the weekend. The Irish were 2-of-4 on power plays Saturday night.

“Our penalty kill was great this weekend and a lot of that has to do with our goaltender,” said head coach Jeff Jackson, noting sophomore Cal Petersen's 22 saves. “But our defensemen who kill have done a really good job, especially against such a great power play, so I have to give our guys credit.”

Notre Dame is back in action next Friday night (Jan. 29) when it plays host to No. 4/5 Boston College in a 7:35 p.m. game at the Compton Family Ice Arena. The two teams met earlier this season in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts with the Irish posting a dramatic 4-3 comeback win to close out the first semester (Dec. 10).
