SEC crew will work the CFP NCG

Interesting. I bet in the preseason they expected to have the week off! These guys allegedly jobbed Boise. I don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling here.

Good the SEC hates Ohio State almost as much as they hate ND. The officiating in the Orange Bowl was a joke. Penn State was repeatedly commiting OPI with their rub routes. The DPI when Tyler Warren was triple covered and ball was thrown way short was an absolute embarrassment. Cost ND a pick and possession of the ball, The Greathouse TD should have given ND the lead, Not tied the ball game. That is the officials interjecting themselves into the game.

Figured that would be the case. Big 12 and ACC did the semis. I never worry about officials. That's an incredibly difficult job and I honestly dont believe in settings like this that any crew has an " agenda".
just incompetent and biased

Disagree. Kelso who frequents this board is a long time respected official here in Ohio. I'd love his opinion. I know a couple of guys, one a long time Big 10 official. He understands fans reactions because it's an emotional reaction. He also said guys that don't measure up are weeded out quickly. Tough, tough job that I would never want to do.

I read an article on ESPN that said that the CF power is shifting to the North with the majority of the big money universities (OSU, Michigan, Oregon, Notre Dame, PSU etc....) in the North. And who can argue with Michigan winning the NC last year and the OSU-ND winner this year.

The thing is the SEC used to pay big money under the table now all CF teams have NIL (cough, cough) to battle that. And that's eating at them down South

That's an emotional reaction. Do you realize how hard it is to get to that level and stay there ? I have tremendous respect for all officials at every level. It's a thankless job. Someone is always unhappy. Do they get every play right ? Of course not they're human but the percentages are pretty damn high or they're out of a job.

Don't care. They are all too often wrong. Carry all the water for them you want but it will not change reality.

Hopefully they can't be any worse.

This is just my opinion. These refs didn't want ND to win.

Here is from my point and reasoning. Take away everything else but the winning field goal....look at the kick again. You have the two refs under the field goal. Then the three refs about 15 yards behind PS. One lined up directly center and one to the left and right.

Ball snapped and two, 2, PS guys jumpRedick. the snapper to block it. Now tell me of the five, 5, refs....which one reached for the flag and threw it. Zero, 0.

If the ball was blocked there is no way we get a rekick.

Go back and look and Riley's first or second run up the middle. On the way down being tackled look at how they grabbed and tugged the face mask.

On that PI when Freeman was pointing and smiling that was pure anger. It was a point and smile saying "you sons a *#*#*#*"

A referee “never having an agenda” is a tough pill to swallow. They are flawed people, not robots. The idea that every one of them can be impartial is laughable. I’m not saying it’s not a tough job, but blindly accepting there’s no bias or agenda is a bit naive, imo.

I think your last line is accurate, but I would add, "but believing that the refs always have it out for INSERT YOUR TEAM'S NAME HERE" is ridiculous too.

its more incompetence than bias
as I said, its a truly LOUSY job and only a certain group is willing to do it. Its a small group so you are not going to get much quality

While I agree with you, the failure to call the targeting penalty on Texas was a travesty.

I really can’t see it being missed on the field, but that could happen, but how it was missed in the replay booth is a crime

This captures my thoughts re. officials in general. However, I thought the officiating at the Orange bowl was noticeably biased. Something as fundamental as placing the ball after a tackle was ROUTINELY placed a foot or so back on nearly every ND run. I appreciate that spotting the ball can be difficult in certain plays, and I’m usually impressed with how accurate they are in making these judgements. But damn, I thought one official in particular grabbed every opportunity to move the placement back against ND.
Frankly, I’m pleased we have SEC officials for this game.

The answer is to have a national officiating association. There's plenty of money to go around to hire full-time professional refs.

It has always OFFENDED me that the NFL, arguably the richest professional sports league in the world, will not have full time officials.
