Look.....I like the odd night game.....I attended the USC game which was the first one in about 20 years and even attended the last home night game against Florida State.

Why? Why would you put Navy on at night in November......makes little sense to me.

I’m not a fan of night games and don’t know why the university agreed to them

Probably better viewership and better atmosphere

Notre Dame-Miami 1988, Notre Dame-Florida St 1993, Notre Dame-USC 2005 were all insanely loud day games.

All about the opponent. Day or Night.

Agreed, that's not a good choice of opponents for a night game. Terrible choice in fact. Oddly terrible. I'm all for night games, but not Navy. So bad, that I'm thinking that the powers that be, no matter how unintuitive they may be as schedulers or executives making important strategic decisions, that that was the best they could do, for whatever logistical holdup or whatnot.

Why?

Because the Navy pageantry will play extremely well on TV, it’s an annual game and whether you like it or not, Notre Dame is forever indebted to Navy, and Blake Horvath is a very good senior QB and Navy IMO is trending up next season.

They love them. The crowds are crazy. It's on at prime time and more people are watching.
Have somebody explain to you why they build stadiums on a north-south axis and maybe, just maybe you’ll figure it out

The reality is, NBC most likely has control of game times. Looking at the Big 10 schedule for week 11. The only game that could have potentially slid into that prime time slot would have been two playoff teams from this past season facing off PSU vs Indiana.

I'm sure the executives at NBC have more than enough data that ND - Navy is going to bring in higher ratings than PSU - IU.

Some fans love night games, & some fans hate them. Players probably don't care too much either way. The networks really like them.

The networks tip the balance to scheduling more night games for the major brands.

lol, minimize sun glare, but the real question is why did they build AT&T stadium on an east-west axis?

If you left it up to players and coaching staffs I guarantee they would prefer the same starting time for every game if that was an option. They are used to structure.

Yes, but they understand that they must be ready to play anywhere, at any time. Coaches cannot allow an odd kickoff time to get into the players' heads. They would have their players laugh at such "adversity".

Of course. It's all about that. Nothing ND or any other school loves more. There's definitely more juice at a night game.
I don’t know that it’s all about money with Notre Dame.

Money is certainly a factor, but it’s not the driving force behind all decisions.

If it was, Notre Dame would’ve lowered the academic standards a long time ago

It’s an indoor stadium, and the angles of the sun from the east and west aren’t much of a factor

That’s true, coaching staff too !

Which ones ?
Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland comes to mind. Many high school stadiums I've coached at also. Honestly I would have to think about all the other places I've been to that weren't high school facilities.

It's a retractable roof, plus it has windows and the glare has been a factor.

"AT&T Stadium's field was constructed on an east–west orientation, and despite being a domed stadium, it features large glass windows behind both end zones."

"AT&T Stadium does have curtains, which are used for other events but never closed during Cowboys games. As a result, during Sunday Cowboys games that start in the late afternoon timeslot (typically either 3:05 or 3:25 PM local time), the sunset has created a glare that shines through the stadium's windows behind the west end zone, which have at times interfered with players' vision. Wide receivers have complained about being unable to see the ball being thrown to them due to the glare, and kick/punt returners have complained about being unable to see the ball being kicked towards them."

Citation needed

I was at the FSU game last Nov wearing 4 shirts and still freezing.
Agreed. I was there, dressed appropriately and while I was fine.....I mean...I live in Canada and I am used to the cold.....I would have preferred a day game in November.

This is funny!! Everything ND does is about money.

So they suffered by not having the stadium on a north-south axis

That stadium is fairly steep and the open ceiling is limited reducing direct daylight to the field

The former first energy stadium is not quite on an east-west axis, but it’s more so than a north-south axis.

It’s very rare to find a stadium on an east-west access, just like it’s very rare to find a golf course with the first hole facing east and the 18th hole facing west

That’s not true, especially with the admissions department

What personal experience do you have with Notre Dame and it’s financesthat allows you to make that statement?

It's funny......my golf course.....4th oldest club in North America has the first hole teeing off east.....makes for a bitch of a morning tee off tracking your ball.....next 4 holes go essentially the other way however

It's strange they have curtains for the large glass windows at each end of the end-zone, but only use them for non football events.

If you’re referencing NGLA, the 1st hole was originally the 10th hole
The 1st at NGLA plays downhill with the tee shot, so the impact of the sun is greatly reduced.

My all time favorite golf course.

Question for you:

If you only had to play a par four, a par three and a par five for the rest of your life and they had to be from the same golf course, which holes would you pick, on what course ?

Brantford Golf & Country Club. I honestly have likely not played enough golf courses or enough golf to answer this!

Are you sure that your first hole plays dead east?

Is # 1 a dog leg left par five ?

Great Pedigree …… Stanley Thompson 👍

Yes...dog leg left par 5.....dead east? Not sure but morning tee times the sun is in your eyes off the tee! East "ish" perhaps.
