Georgia is as fast or faster then USC at most spots. I do agree only chance to win is to outscore USC
USC is very fast, but they are generally not a super physical team. They do play very well on d when they are totally healthy. They have one of the best defenses in the country, but they have had so many injuries this year that the play has been a bit sporadic. I dont think it is usc's talent on d necessarily. I think Clancy Pendergast is a very talented dc. He is more talented than our oc, tee martin. To me, we should be a lot worse on d with all the youth, inexperience and injuries we have had. I thought the d this year would be a year a way from being really good. The depth along the dl and de is really thin right now. Even the guys who are playing are totally banged up and are barely making it through games. Many are hardly practicing at all and then just playing in the games.
ND should pound sc on the ground for the whole game. Over time nd will get some good yardage. They may not break too many long plays because it is very hard to outrun usc, but they can average 5 or 6 yards a carry by the time the game is over. ND will need td's in the red zone. But sc is really hard to score on when teams get inside the 10. Our dc is that good.
The offense at usc has been injured quite a bit as well. Against wsu 2/3 of starters were either out completely or playing with real injuries. It was ridiculous. I think both starting tackles are going to play this week, but I am not sure. We also lost a 4 year starter at guard and last year we had 3 starters go pro. But the guys we brought back this yr were generally very experienced and talented. But you cant lose 3 to the pros and then 3 more to injuries and be dominant. We have had true freshman starting at two spots at different times this year. If we are fully healthy minus the one guard, we do have a very good OL.
I would not suggest stacking the box against sam darnold, nor would I would recommend dropping 8 in to coverage. They guy is so talented and can get out of any jam. I would simply mix it up on d like texas and wsu did. They kept running unusually complex schemes and shifting at the last moment or even right at the start of the play. A good dc can really slow down sam darnold. It made it very hard for sam darnold and the Oline to read the defense and so they could not play that fast. Darnold is uber talented but very raw when ti comes to reading defenses. So if you a run a good scheme it will slow him down. He also is a gunslinger who takes huge risks, but he will come in the clutch. His feet and pocket presence are amazing. If he catches fire for whatever reason, he is almost impossible to stop. He is total winner. Best 4th quarter qb I have ever seen at usc. But we have a lot of inexperience and youth at the wr position this year so that has made it tough on him as well. Out top te has been out to and he and is beast. Some of those guys are now back from injury and others have matured so the wr core is actually pretty good right now.
I think nd is deeper and more veteran than usc this year and I think the coaching at nd is better this year. Plus it is a home game. So ND by 11.
