Sark let go

It is sad but probably for the best.
Beach,

Who are the candidates being talked about? Who would you like to see get the job?

Too soon, pure guesses. Willingham? Of course we will make an unsuccesful run at Chp Kelly. Try again with Sumlin? really don't know

Will not retunr as coach. Will be bought out to allow him to get life together

Here is a statement from USC athletic director Pat Haden:

"After careful consideration of what is in the best interest of the university and our student-athletes, I have made the decision to terminate Steve Sarkisian, effective immediately.

"I want to thank Clay Helton for stepping into the interim head coach role, and I want to add how proud I am of our coaching staff and players and the way they are responding to this difficult situation.

"Through all of this we remain concerned for Steve and hope that it will give him the opportunity to focus on his personal well being."

Wait, so he was to drunk to do his job.... the Job he is getting paid millions to do.... and he gets bought out? Seems to me like he should be fired and not only should he not get a penny more, he should give back money for the weeks they knew he was drunk.

I hope he can solve this problem not only for himself but for the welfare of his family.

beach: this is the rumor I was talking about when I mentioned Haden not acting earlier this year:

If he was passing out in front of players, how does Haden not know back then?
Never heard the passing out. I did hear he drank on the plane. Pat's thought was that Sark was going through a divorce and would gain his bearing. He had him gert local help. My reaction in the other post wasn't to the point that Pat knew or should have known, byt that if Sark was winning he would still be here. Pat is a horrible AD, but he is a very good person.

it is sad to here anybody having problem like this but i'm not sad that he got fired though because if some john smith is going to get fired for coming to work at some factory or restaurant drunk them so should a head coach

I have no dislike of Haden as a person. But Washington fans are saying it was an open secret that Sark was a heavy drinker, so Haden should have known that when he was hired.

It might be best for USC to cut ties with Haden now too. A new coach doesn't want to be hired by someone who may be on the way out.

IMO and just IMO Pat will not see the next football season as AD

He can't just be fired. Alcoholism is a recognized disability and the ADA requires the University to make reasonable accommodations. This generally involves giving him time to seek treatment. Of course if he denies having the disease than that might be entirely different. I suspect that he was "fired" in that his contract was bought out and he released USC from any claims he might have under the ADA and other relevant statutes.

You can slide under the radar at 2nd tier jobs like Washington. But at pressure cookers like USC, ND, OSU, Michigan etc... if you have any type of "personal issues" the insane pressure can break a guy.

You better be one seriously buttoned up and squared away person both mentally and physically to be the Head Coach of a Super Power.

Knowing his history his contract may well have had provisions to fire him for something like this.

Ty's available.

On a serious note, too bad about Sarkisian. I hope he gets his life together.

Why not Ed Orgeron? He should have gotten it last time. With the caliber of recruits USC gets I would think hire a guy like him who can bring in the desired players and then surround Ed with a top flight staff. Pat might even get to keep his job.

My greatest fear as an ND fan???

Chip Kelly pulls a Harbaugh, sours on the NFL and decides to go to LA-LA land and coach the trojans! Could you imagine Chip with USC talent?

People who are saying he should have been fired since it was known he was a "heavy drinker" need to educate themselves. There's a difference between an alcoholic and someone who likes to have a few drinks with his pals. There are a lot of guys(and girls) who will meet up with friends for drinks and have to take a cab home. I'd bet most of them don't show up to work drunk.

I hope coach Sark is able to get his personal life on track and is able to get back into coaching afterwards.

Yes will getr his buy-out which is part of the employment contract.

He isn't a candidate.

If they can't get a better candidate than Ed Orgeron, than they are in serious trouble.

I saw Ditka puke at a Mexican restaurant in Palm springs shortly after his bears super bowl win.... He and his entourage were croffled....and yes he kept drinking..... NBA coaches and refs used to come to our local hangout in NY and get ripped....

Exactly.

Being known as a "heavy drinker" is one thing, being drunk on the sidelines while coaching a major college football game
is another thing entirely. Lots of people, coaches included, like to go out and get hammered. Only those with a serious
drinking problem show up the next day at work to continue the party.

The pressure of a D1 coach is immense. Add in the fact that Sark's marriage fell apart, and you can easily see that alcohol
was his "escape". When the heat got turned up, his escape became his routine apparently.

I wish him the best, for his sake and his family's.
