Same old Jack Swarbrick BS

well, with the way things are, if ND can give USC any competition, then it won't face UM in '17
and '17 could be as much as an 8-9 win season so 'meh' is on track. It looks very much like BK will complete a 12 year coaching tenure at ND w/o a Major bowl victory, or even a victory over a major opponent ranked higher than ND. In a sense that survival is an incredible accomplishment, and a testimonial to Swarbricks ivision for ND football.

9 win season at best next year. But the narrative will be we were within a score in every loss...

There is nothing wrong with JS saying that.

BK was not getting fired anyway.
You don't sign him to a 6 year extension then fire him

While I'm not in love with Kelly's coaching at times I do know that he led us to the first undefeated regular season in 20 plus years, that has to mean something. I think he can make us a solid program again. This isn't an easy job the money, fanatic fans, academic requirements. Give the guy another year maybe 2 IMO if this is still the case then I think you'll have a better argument. Look at Texas they are going to suffer because Mack winning a chip and running a solid program wasn't good enough. They have the pick of the litter when it comes to recruits and have fallen on hard times. ND is not in a recruiting hotbed (by today's standards) an I think going down this road of win now or else would be a terrible move.

Simple formula ...
Recruiting
Player management and development
Game day coaching

I'd give him a B+, C+, F

Overall grade is C

Some holes in recruiting.
Re-opened the pipeline to the NFL but too many transfers, academic and discipline issues despite the goofy RKG references
Regularly out coached by less talented teams and blown off the field by more talented teams.

We could do better ... a lot better. Only one reason for schools like USC, Texas, ND, Michigan, Alabama to have even a .500 record while schools like Wisconsin, A&M, Stanford have consistent top 10 seasons ... coaching!

2012 was an anomaly we needed all the stars to align to squeak pas BYU, Purdue, Pitt and USC and when we stepped on the field with Bama it was over after 3 possessions because Saban used his month to prepare while Kelly used his to flirt with the NFL and do tv appearances

and, Swarbtick and the ND hierarchy agree with you; so they have decided to not try anymore!

as for having a better argument? are you joking? I suppose you own a pet leopard and are sitting him waiting for his spots to change!

Hopefully Swarbrick can convince Coach Kelly to step down after the season. I like Coach Kelly but I love the Irish and want to get to the next level.
1. Coach Kelly has done a good job making the Irish job attractive again for the next coach. I hope the Irish can get a top notch outside hire but if they can't just hire Mike Denbrock.
2.
3. I eat my crow in thinking this Irish team was destined for Greatness !
4.
5. Hats off to Texas and Michigan State.
6.
7. *** I will still cheer for the Irish for all their games but I might skip a few and won't get really interested until they become relevant again. I wish we could get a coach like Urban Meyer.
8.
9. *** But I refuse to trash the current staff or team. I wish them all the success.
10.
11. *** And God bless all of you Irish fans !"

As disappointing as those comments were by Swarbrick, 8 & 4 will be gone either at the end of this year or next and Kelly will agree its time. The fearful take away may be that Swarbrick has become too close to the people of the program. As a CEO, his principal responsibility is to the integrity of the organization/program he manages. If that calls for the removal of an individual, HC, then it must be done. Whether he likes it personally or not. This situation is not going to improve. You have had 7 years of a work product to judge. This is not about wins and losses per say, it's about how the team is prepared and plays week end and week out. The quality of the product has been deteriorating. Period. It's not getting better because the main issue is not just the talent level of the players, but how they are taught to execute and play the game. It's bad. The fan base is only going to become more and more frustrated and angry with the administration if no action happens. Someone send Jack the memo.

No worries. Jack can be fired just as easily as Kelly. That would be fine as well. Or ND can do nothing and remain what they have been for 20 plus years. A program that hasn't won a Major Bowl since 1994. Seems the decision was made years ago. So be it. go irish.

Swarbrick isn't getting fired. Our overall athletic department is as strong as it's ever been.

Only Kelly can fire Kelly after this season....he can lose out and he comes back. Two losing seasons? Then he's fired. But the mediocrity index is alive and well. that's the unfortunate part of this.

I support BK, but this year has just been bizarre....We have played some really bad teams.....we might be young, but we really should not be losing to these teams. Texas, MSU, Stanford and Duke are all terrible this year. NC State is a good team, yeah they got beat down today by L-V but that's really the only team that has been decent. I still think there are some real issues in our assistants....maybe the right captains....maybe just bad luck....Next year he needs to get a real DC so he can run the show again.....

IMHO he is, sadly, a manifestation of the Peter Principle albeit in the big time college football coaching arena. No denying he made some significant achievements in upgrading the fiasco created by his three predecessors. However, for his entire stewardship his teams lacked the "killer instinct" the really successful programs exhibit when playing inferior teams. It's no longer the "nail biting" wins but a countless string of embarrassing defeats - many of them at home.
It is mind boggling that after two and a half years of major issues with the defense he finally decided to get personally involved and uncovered the obvious shortcomings of his hand picked coach.
Finally, after hearing over and over again about all of his years and years of experience, we are now being bombarded with "all the close games we were in etc., etc., etc. Simply put, another smokescreen to cover up the inability to take the team to the next level. Another year will not fix this.

In your opinion, who will be more remembered as the one to have ended ND football relevance Kelly or Swarbrick? Who was the 'destroyer'?

Kelly clearly does not excite nor resonate with recruits nor their families; Kelly clearly is not a great strategist and cannot make snap game day adjustments; Kelly does not project well in front of the national TV viewing nation and his demeanor can be brutal and even rude. He is in ways, incompetent.
Jack, knows all the above; Jack made bad business decisions and Jack allows the decay to continue!
