well, with the way things are, if ND can give USC any competition, then it won't face UM in '17
and '17 could be as much as an 8-9 win season so 'meh' is on track. It looks very much like BK will complete a 12 year coaching tenure at ND w/o a Major bowl victory, or even a victory over a major opponent ranked higher than ND. In a sense that survival is an incredible accomplishment, and a testimonial to Swarbricks ivision for ND football.
While I'm not in love with Kelly's coaching at times I do know that he led us to the first undefeated regular season in 20 plus years, that has to mean something. I think he can make us a solid program again. This isn't an easy job the money, fanatic fans, academic requirements. Give the guy another year maybe 2 IMO if this is still the case then I think you'll have a better argument. Look at Texas they are going to suffer because Mack winning a chip and running a solid program wasn't good enough. They have the pick of the litter when it comes to recruits and have fallen on hard times. ND is not in a recruiting hotbed (by today's standards) an I think going down this road of win now or else would be a terrible move.
Swarbrick isn't getting fired. Our overall athletic department is as strong as it's ever been.No worries. Jack can be fired just as easily as Kelly. That would be fine as well. Or ND can do nothing and remain what they have been for 20 plus years. A program that hasn't won a Major Bowl since 1994. Seems the decision was made years ago. So be it. go irish.
I'm sure there are things he's not sayingThere is nothing wrong with JS saying that.
BK was not getting fired anyway.
You don't sign him to a 6 year extension then fire him
IMHO he is, sadly, a manifestation of the Peter Principle albeit in the big time college football coaching arena. No denying he made some significant achievements in upgrading the fiasco created by his three predecessors. However, for his entire stewardship his teams lacked the "killer instinct" the really successful programs exhibit when playing inferior teams. It's no longer the "nail biting" wins but a countless string of embarrassing defeats - many of them at home.I support BK, but this year has just been bizarre....We have played some really bad teams.....we might be young, but we really should not be losing to these teams. Texas, MSU, Stanford and Duke are all terrible this year. NC State is a good team, yeah they got beat down today by L-V but that's really the only team that has been decent. I still think there are some real issues in our assistants....maybe the right captains....maybe just bad luck....Next year he needs to get a real DC so he can run the show again.....
