Rudolph

I don't even know if Kyle Rudolph is still playing. He seemed a little lean for TE who would have to block. Still I think he saved our hide in one game, was it 2009 Purdue? I will always be grateful.

Was Gino hired or no? Seems if so, he and Rudolph could lend a helping hand of experience to Parker.

He's not Matt Luke. But he's a quality hire. Upgrade over Quinn but not Heistand.

This is a we'll see right now for me

Coached 6 guys that made the NFL while at Wisky. Supposedly one from VT will be drafted this year. One drafted while at Pitt. Played in the league 2 years. Got a taste of OC at Pitt and Wisky. Good hire for sure.

Good hire, pretty darn good offensive staff with the big ? being parket as OC. He has two guys working for him that have more experience than he does as OC, so that should help.

Exactly. Elite hire.
It's funny how some folks think coach A is better than Coach B without any clear evidence to base it on. Everyone pretty much loved Harry. I think he's an excellent coach. That said ND went 44-6 with Quinn as the O line coach. What o line coach at ND had a better 4 year record ? That's pretty good. Does that make Quinn better ? Nope, nor does ND going 4-8 with HH make him worse. It's how the staff fits and functions together.

Going to watch the meltdown on IB as they posted earlier this wasn't set in stone....

Now the coach posted on his Twitter he's leaving....

Agree on Jeff Quinn. Bryan Driskell started the smear campaign against Quinn, then it became a mob mentality, and all the team did the entire tenure of Quinn and Brian Kelly was win 44 out of 50 games, and two CFB Playoff berths.

People forget that HH was not a good hire coming in. Tennessee was glad to see him go.

A lot goes into an OL hire that we simply won't know until the fall. Things like coaching tendencies etc sure, but things like scheme fit, culture fit, etc won't be known until after the season.

I think it's a strong hire but we need to see it on action. His wisc. Pedigree will resonate with current t recruits, but the proof will be in the pudding this fall.

The "proof will be in the pudding..." with any coach you hire.

We’d have been even better without Quinn imo but he wasn’t as bad as some feel. But agree that we’ve seen a slide since BK left. BK had two very good DCs in Elko and Leah whom I credit with helping him turn the entire program around. He did hire them and Freeman. He also made Rees. BK is like Trump. You love him or hate him but he got the job done.

VT fans responding saying they regressed and had worst offense in school history under this guy. Any facts to suggest they’re right or just butt hurt?

Some years. Some years not so much

For years, I’ve admired the way Wisconsin and Utah play the game. Tough hard hitting aggressive offensive lines and running backs. Rudolph was a big part of this for several years as OL coach at Wisconsin, and I expect our OL will be exceptional under his leadership. A very good hire that I thought was beyond reach given his salary and reasons for going to Virg Tech.

Spring training starts shortly, and I am anxious to see who emerges at which positions on our OL. The conventional view is we have two guard openings, and the competition is between Schrauth and Rocco and Kristofic. I’m just OK with Zeke at center, but not at all sure he’s our best option there. Does someone like Coogan or Carmody challenge for his position? I thought Fisher was inconsistent as hell at RT…started poorly, then his game really picked up four games into the season, but I thought he regressed some the last few games. Is he still our best option for RT, or does moving him to LG next to Alt create an unbelievable run blocking combination? Is there a better RT option? Has Baker finally developed strength and aggression and technique to compete? Has Wagner gained enough good weight and strength to make a case? Etc….

I personally think we benefit from fresh eyes on these guys. Rudolph will answer these questions, most likely in Spring training, and I think We are fortunate for this.

If Rocco and or Kristofic aren't starting next year (considering ND is recruiting a mulit year starting guard to transfer in, I'd say this is likely)...i wouldn't be surprised if we see or the coaches expect multiple transfers...
