Rocco spindler to the portal.

If one of those guys go down , which is very likely would he not be the next man in ?
He played pretty well this season. I’d at least wait til after spring ball. Idk his circumstances or reasons so it is what it is.
Too bad. I thought he could start next season. Jmo.

I wonder if they're being processed. What's our scholarship situation? Do we need to get numbers down?

Processing is basically okay now. Players get paid, and they can totally leave any time they want, and can find another school, even if it's not as good as ND. It's just an ethical thing anyway, schools could always process players any time they wanted. But now, it's just like, what's so bad about it?

Coogan and Spindler… two starters on our offensive line. I feel like this is NIL poaching. Maybe they are upset they didn’t start the the season opener? Either way, both are replaceable but Spindler stings a little more.

They both will have degrees and one year of eligibility remaining. Why not go somewhere you're more likely to play ? This doesn't hurt ND one iota. The room is loaded. No one should be surprised.

This seems short sighted. Neither will be membered as fondly by ND faithful. And unless they play for a championship team at their new destination, they'll be viewed as mercenaries and quickly forgotten.

They know they are not going to get the same playing time. Coogan is okay but nothing special. Did a great job stepping in
Exactly. Craig if healthy is the superior player. If you only have one year of eligibility remaining and really want to play it's the smart move.

Prior to Spindler and Coogan, and after the departures of Thomas and Colzie, Notre Dame is at 101 scholarships, 16 over the current NCAA max with the likelihood, but not certainly, the 85-scholarship limit gets raised ahead of next season.

Ouch ? How so ?
I’m a big fan of a senior led team for multiple reasons.
I thought spindler would have competed for the starting job at guard. We are going to continue to be a run heavy offense next season I believe. Plus the depth aspect. We need 8 starter caliber depth to run a 16 game season.
Maybe I’m underestimating the talent on the bench
Thoughts. ? Maybe I’m not seeing the whole picture here. Scholly numbers ?

So none of you saw this coming? Both were backups. Neither would have played if Scrauth and Craig didn't get hurt. While they both did a tremendous job; they are physically, from a talent perspective, 9th or 10th best on the OL. Anyone paying attention knew Knapp would move inside. Jagusah literally was out all season. Came in as a guard in the semis. Was outstanding. Then started vs Ohio and did a great job. Guerby Lambert, a 5 star incoming guy in Black. They got their degrees. Now they can go play one more year and be a welcomed starter. probably at a middle pack Big 10 school ala - MSU or Illinois etc.

He got beat out this year. Had Schrauth not gotten injured his playing may have been minimal. I just think there are more talented, younger players in the room. Still hoping Jagusah gets moved inside and I'm told they are very high on Peter Jones. Both Spindler and Coogan turned out to be important pieces this year and that was great. It's in their best interests to move on if they want play regularly.

The backups will likely be Lambert, Ashber, Otting, and Terek. Lambert if he's as talented as people say will probably be the first lineman to go in at guard or tackle. All these guys have already spent at least year in the program and should be game ready. I think they'll be fine.

Right, they're going to raise it to 105, with no walk-ons, or that's the plan, even though there's no real good explanation for it, and apparently it's an unexpected development, that nobody really wanted or was agitating for, and has to do with revenue sharing and being title IX compliant, and it's for financial/legal reasons and is somehow a corollary of that or whatnot.

But either way that's way over 85. I guess I haven't been paying attention.

Ty Chan enters the portal. I was quite impressed with his high school tape. It’s wild how quickly some of these guys get buried on the depth chart.

I don’t think you guys know how loaded our off line is. They saw the writing on the wall, they weren’t going to start,, there are plenty power 5 schools where they will. Not mercenaries, but want to play,

I’m repeating what has been already said here. These guys have only five days after the championship game to declare. So naturally we’re going to see declarations over just a few days span. The four guys who have declared were not going to start next year, and they were likely told thus. Rocco and Coogan both started the prior season, and yet were beat out by younger better players going into this season. They only started because of injuries. They would have been nice backup insurance policies, but frankly, I’m glad guys like Otting and Absher will compete for the two deep.

Ideally Lambert at left tackle and Jagusah at right guard with Knapp the Swiss army knife.
Im surprised to hear you say that. Isn't Jagusah like 6'7" with Knapp being 6'4"? I would think Knapp is better suited for the guard position than Jagusah is. Plus Knapp started 15 games, while Lambert has 0. With that said, why are you comfortable with Lambert getting the start and benching Knapp?

Thank you for making sense.

I see Lambert as another Ronnie Stanley. Great length, excellent feet. If he had been an early enrollee I'd bet buckets of money he would have been the left tackle instead of Knapp. Nothing against Knapp as he was a godsend who made the most of his opportunity. I believe Jagusah can be a solid competent left tackle but I think Lambert has more upside at the position. I also firmly believe Jagusah can be an All American at guard. Think a more talented Robert Banks. Injuries are inevitable. Having someone as capable as Knapp being able to fill in almost anywhere is a positive.
