RJ Oben is Irish

Great get

I was bullish on the team freeman built on paper before the 2023 season, some injuries, and very poor offensive plans/coaching/calling derailed what could have been a team that could realistically compete for a national championship

Freeman is putting together on paper just as good of a team for 2024. Our weakness next year may be our offensive tackles only, then it comes down to coaching improvements and if they happen or not. We should be bullish on our team again.

Offensive tackle. Fisher was overrated and got beat a bunch.

He definitely got beat at times, but also did a lot of really good things too. I'm worried our tackles next year will get beat but not do that many good things as well.

We still need a safety. It's a big need

Is Xavier Watts coming back? Morrison and Watts were in Leonard's video when he announced for ND.

"I feel like personally I have a lot more to grow as a player,” Watts said. "I mean, I feel like this season was kind of just like a coming out party. I feel like I have a lot more to still show as a player.

Lookout blocks were a specialty of his

Yeah I think he is. We still need a safety. It's a huge need

Fisher seemed to get beat often and then look around to see what the hell happened. He seemed slow or his footwork was bad

Now he will be a highly paid NFL OL guy.

And good for him.

He can "lookout...." all the way to the bank.

The Freeman haters can cross off the portal as a topic to bash him about
I wonder if ND is dropping their undergrad transfer requirements. Which I would approve of if so. They don't have to totally forsake them, but they could make it a little easier, if indeed it's as hard to qualify as it's supposed to be...

In any case, it seems like we're getting some good transfers....

All that’s missing now is a competent OC and player development. The paper all stars need to step up and win a damn game.

Do you think Shuler can emerge and capture the other starting spot next to Watts? Maybe Ben Minich too? Minich early enrolled and has had a lot of time on campus and in the program at this point, would love to see him or Shuler step up.

Of we don't land anyone in the portal, I think those 2 will battle for the other starting spot. With Talich maybe getting some run

I think in NDs mind that might be putting the sport a head of the academics

I hope not. They are making the acceptance process quicker for Freeman.

You guys think Oben will make the kind of impact that Baptiste made?

Baptiste had a hell of a year.

JJB was a revelation this past season. Might have put himself in a position where he will be drafted by some NFL team, though most mock drafts seem to still have him going as an UDFA. But he will clearly get a look by some NFL team He really came on strong the second half of the season. He was arguably our best defensive player outside of Xavier Watts, JD Bertrand and Howard Cross. If Oben can have that kind of impact, that would be a great pickup. He appears to have that kind of potential.
