SAN DIEGO, CA - December 10, 1952 - March 31, 2021 Robert Joseph Sweeney, originally a longtime resident of Marlton, NJ and most recently of San Diego, CA passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2021. He was 68 years old.
Bob was born to Jack and Elizabeth Sweeney on December 10, 1952 in Boise, Idaho. He grew up with four siblings and as a family they moved often. He attended Salem High School in Salem, MA. Growing up Bob was passionate about football and his hard work and determination earned him an athletic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame. It is here where he met his wife Marianne and they were married in 1976.
Bob graduated from Notre Dame in 1975 with a Bachelor’s degree in economics. After college, Bob followed in his father’s footsteps and proudly became a Special Agent with the FBI. He began his career in Washington, DC and later served the bulk of his career in the Philadelphia area for 25 years until he retired in 2009. With his uncompromising leadership and integrity, Bob was able to communicate and collaborate with multiple government agencies, as well as informants, in many high profile federal investigations. He led many successful investigations which earned him outstanding recognition during his 34 year career with the FBI.
Bob Sweeney and I Interviewed former Philly cop Steve Mondevergine aka Gorilla from the Pagans. Bob laughed when we 1st met Gorilla. Gorilla looked 6'3 350lbs on TV. He is 5'7 230 lbs. About a gangland murder. RIP Sir RIP.
