It Bush can get his trophy back because of NIL, then Pete should be in the HOF!!!! The same for “Shoeless” Joe Jackson!!!! He and the other players were found not guilty in court. Baseball commissioner on his own banned them.
Pete would have been in a long time ago if he would have come clean in the beginning. It would have taken some time but I believe it would have happened. His own stubbornness prevented it.
Maybe a good Pete rose story. I grew up in Marion IL, famous for one person, Ray Fosse. Great catcher for the A’s. Home town hero. Rose slide in hard at an all star game damaged his hand. Struggled after. Most people in Marion HATE Pete Rose to this day. However, we got our revenge when Charlie Hustle did some time at the Marion Penitentiary. Most maximum security federal prison in the US at one point. Irony.

I honestly dont think they had that in Marion. It was one of those crazy lock down prisons. Someone hijacked a helicopter and tried to fly it in to get someone out.....a scuffle took place and she was shot and killed. Then when i was still pretty young, someone hijacked a TWA plane out of St. Louis, landed in Marion and tried to hold hostages to get someone out. It was on a 23.5 hour a day lockdown. They also unloaded Alcatraz there i heard. Not sure what its like now

First off, you should get your facts straight. Pete Rose spent five months in the minimum security prison camp at the United States Penitentiary in Marion, Illinois in 1990. He worked at the maximum security penitentiary during those 5 months, but didn't stay there.

Something that made MLB feel good about itself, even though gambling, in and of itself is as American as apple pie, however disreputable or sinful in the eyes of god and puritanical society. Everyone does it, people were gambling and throwing dice in the days of Gilgamesh, and American manhood almost depends upon it as one of its load-bearing pillars. And now it's all legal and respectable, no one needs a bookie anymore. But they're worried about another humiliating Black Sox situation, so Charlie Hustle gets nailed to the cross.
So let the dude in, he's a genuine American sports hero, with impeccable credentials. And maybe the all-time greatest, most righteous sports nickname ever coined. He's iconic, or at least he was before this sanctimonious, trumped up scandal destroyed his rep. And I don't even like baseball. But I remember Pete Rose. Besides they gave Reggie Bush his Heisman back, him being one of the great CFB players of all time who also was crucified by the system on the most spurious pretenses that are now in ruins.

If he was bit of a hard character which he appears to have been, that is America and he is an avatar. Makes him even better. Sometimes you get Tom Brady, who's this unathletic, gangly dude who can't run but has this youthful competitive gift, and if he can't run well he'll just play sports where you don't have to run like playing QB in football, and I think he was a serious baseball prospect as well, like a catcher or something. And he's just this dorky suburban kid who loves sports and cries when he doesn't get drafted high enough. And then you have hardasses like Pete Rose who seems like a decent enough athlete as far as it goes, and just a gruff dude who treats playing baseball for a living like it's way better than driving a cab or pulling a shift at the local bottling plant and would never cry ever about anything. And that's why he got 4000 hits.
It was probably a hit job meant to make him look as bad as they could plausibly make him look. Now that professional sports is this glossy playground for the billionaire class, and for computer geeks with their algorithmic 'analytics', and someone like Tom Brady is everyone's wet dream. By contrast Pete Rose is an embarrassment, he's white trash, and a target for millennial sports grifters and hangers on for their latest cool doc. If you're a real professional sports fan, you would demand this guy get in to the HOF.
Worse. Supposedly he had sexual encounters with a minor while he was in his 30s. He admitted to her being 16, but the woman said she was only 14 at the time.
Really, you mean like Elvis? Doesn't mean shit to me. And it's definitely not worse. Do you know how many times in human history nubile teenage girls have slept with older men without incident, especially a superstar celebrity, or whatever passed for that all throughout the existence of the human race? Too many times to count, we'll put it that way. For better or worse it's a defining trait of human behavior. But now Pete Rose is an irredeemable scumbag. And that same ruthless puritanical society ain't gonna stop there, even though it was supposed to be about the gambling, but we gotta bury this guy because that's what we do. And I don't even like baseball, I don't care about Pete Rose, nor do I approve of adult men seducing teenage girls. Doesn't change anything, there couldn't be more of a deserving HOF player than Pete Rose is all I'm saying. And so put him in, and stop digging up dirt on him like a snitch.

Was he the greatest hitter ever? No. That debate can be endless. My vote is Ty Cobb.
That said was he an incredible "baseball player" that played with a heart bigger than his body with no care for life and limb....
his effort and energy wasn't matched by many and certainly belongs in the HOF.
That is not acceptable just because it was his own team. A manager who bet on his own team is biased as to decision making, such as when to pull his pitcher.

Bottom line they should put him in the HOF. He's not just a great player, he's the all-time hits leader. Not just an impressive feat, it's a transcendent statistic, that defines the sport itself in the most essential way, and yet he's deliberately being kept out of the HOF. And I think he won a gold glove more than once, I don't really know. His heyday was before my time, as a kid I remember him on the Phillies. And he was this huge superstar of the sport already, in my child's imagination. And the Big Red Machine was like this storied bit of baseball lore and history. One of the greatest teams ever assembled and whatnot.
The dude is on the Mt. Rushmore of MLB baseball, and easily a member of the all-time starting lineup. It's a disgrace that he's not in the HOF. The gambling doesn't matter and is irrelevant. To say nothing of his personal life.
Pete Rose is permanently ineligible from baseball for betting on the game. The Hall of Fame is a separate entity from MLB and just a museum. If he didn’t bet on baseball, he would be in the hall of fame today. Nevertheless, he still might get elected to the HOF someday, but I don’t think his lifetime ban from baseball will ever be lifted.
Did Pete Rose sleep with your wife or something? MLB players have done a lot worse. Beating their wives and girlfriends, and habitual drug use. Steroid use impacted the game and record books far more than one guy gambling on his team to win.
