A mess over there! The players are tight, with themselves, not necessarily the coaching staff.
I doubt anyone believes Utah has an overall more naturally talented roster than SC, but they have beaten SC three times over 2 years. This is a clear commentary of the 2 staffs; especially the head coach.

"Best collection of players" is not always the "best team".
USC has SO many transfers, it is not entirely surprising that this year's team may not have the best chemistry. California produces plenty of defensive high school talent. If USC gets the right DC, they may still become a thorn given time.

Remember BK had his guy also at strength and conditioning (Longo). When it seemed that there were cries everywhere to rethink the staff, Longo was a frequent mention. Longo and BK were very close personally. BK never had to address the situation with Longo as Mother Nature dealt Coach Longo an undeserved condition/illness. Longo was forced out by serious medical condition. He left ND with the love, admiration and gratitude of many ND fans, student, and players.
Rebuilding through the portal is faster, but it’s hard to imagine a team generating enough chemistry to win a Championship.
Well, he needed to replace 2/3. His team: recruiting/portal. Yr1 made him to willing to accept the portal players than work hard at recruiting. His current class is ‘meh’! For So. cal. expectations. It takes hard work to recruit! Are they willing?
Lincoln Riley is being paid really well, guaranteed big big $$$$, to coach USC. Where is he going?
