1) Stop Fullback Dive

2) Stop Pitchman- don't give up sideline- force run back to help
3) QB- hit the hell out of him every play- eliminate the pitchman and beat the QB up. This eventually forces turnovers- bad pitches. Etc etc.

** occasionally run blitz on early downs to force tackles for loss and forced passing downs**
Have to have solid safety play- good tackling angle and deep safety depth because it is a risk- reward play. Give up 25 yard run. Not 70 yard TD run.

It's not rocket science. Here it is.

Let's go Irish!

Stop them on first down. If you let them get 4 and 5 yards on first down, they will eat us alive. Second and 8, second and 9 is where we need them to be operating.

Thanks coach.

No problem Pennick.

To watch live at Metlife in 2010.

To see Alex Teich go for 220 yards on fullback dives and to hear how

Bob Elliott is the mastermind of defending the option is silly.

It's basic common sense.

In general the rule is to tackle the fullback on every play. Don't even worry about whether he has the ball/ It is an easy part to the option to take away.

I was at that game too. I Still have nightmares about it.

You mean Bob Diaco! But, if you do not see the option a lot, it can deceive you -- this is where discipline is very much needed.
