Regarding the USC game

If ND doesn’t turn it over maybe. USC forced 5 tonight and only won by 3. Against OSU they forced 4 and only won by three.

In the modern game, a running back is never going to be a make or break player for any team. Yes, he‘s done well rushing and is a good receiver but that passing game allows for these running lanes. Frankly, I’m concerned that Addison will get more balls his way.

In this game, USC’s biggest problem is its poor defense that could give up long sustained drives and our pressure on the high octane offense.
Addison is hurt. Went out in the fourth. Might be nothing but he went out.

Don’t be shocked if ND gets a better ranking than expected. THEY really want SC in the CFP. I feel like ND is probably #15. I can see them at #12. All because they figure SC will dispatch of ND and then they can put them at #4 after the OSU/UM game.

SC will load the box. Play man. Then they’ll double Mayer. And drop people into lanes like they did on the last pick. And 5-11 QB will have trouble.

Should Notre Dame bother showing up?

Whatever it is we'll need mid to high 30's to have a chance to beat USC .
I dont know about that. Maybe but we didn't need that against OSU.

We will need to control the game with our lines of scrimmage. Slow the game down

This program is on much better footing than USC. 37 - 24 type of game for the Irish. Run heavy with play action will keep SC of the field.

ANYONE WITH TRUE FOOTBALL KNOWLEDGE KNOWS THAT ND IS GOING TO RUN ALL OVER USC! THE ND DEFENSE IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST USC WILL FACE! ND BY 10....

Caleb Williams is only 1.5 inches taller.

Russell Williams is 5’ 11”

Kyler Murray is 5’ 10 “

Doug Flutie was 5’ 10”

Do they have trouble ?

Josh Allen is 6’ 5” and he has passes batted down.

The obsession with Pyne’s height is unreasonable.

I applaud your enthusiasm but it ain’t gonna be easy !

Just impossible to feel comfortable going into a shootout with Pyne.

In this dark age of ND quarterbacking rolling out this immobile 5’7” pop gun with broken sights has to be rock bottom.

Hopefully the USC defense is as bad as everyone is saying and we only need Drew to get 2 or 3 key passes over the line of scrimmage while the running game does the heavy lifting.

By the end of thre season Drew Pyne will be 5-2.

Should be an interesting game next Saturday. ND is coming off one of its more complete games in the beatdown of BC, and USC is coming off of a wildly entertaining win against UCLA. It's been a while since the ND/USC game has truly been competitive--USC consistently handed ND its lunch during the Willingham/Weis years, but then Kelly mostly turned the tables on USC during his tenure--so I am looking forward to a back-and-forth battle.

Caleb Williams looked awfully good against UCLA last night. That has been the only USC game I have watched this year; I don't know if Williams was just on his game last night, or if that is how he has played all year, but ND will have its hands full if he plays anything like that next Saturday. That was a fun game to watch with two really good QBs going up against two really bad defenses. I had only watched snippets of UCLA games before last night; Dorian Thompson-Robinson was a very impressive player, and single-handedly kept UCLA in the game much of the night. You guys that follow recruiting, did ND ever take a serious look at him? The kid is a player.

I think we all know what needs to happen for ND to win: it must control the lines of scrimmage on both sides and try to keep Williams off the field with sustained drives by our offense where we run the ball down USC's throat. Even if we do that, I think Pyne is going to have to elevate his game and make some plays. He can't continue to play as poorly as he has for stretches of the last 4 or 5 games. I expect there will be times during the game where we need him to hit a few passes to someone other than Mayer.

USC is going to have a lot on the line during the game; if it wins, it could sneak into the CFB playoffs. I expect an intense game.

Watching USC and UCLA last night was like watching a Big 12 Championship game a few years ago. Lots of speed on the field, great athletes in the skill positions, overall great offensive play and weak defensive play. Hard to understand how a team can get four or five turnovers, over 500 yards from their QB, score 48 points and only win by three.
To me, Our game with USC next week feels a bit like the 2013 game against Oklahoma, and I hope for a similar outcome, albeit USC will score more than 13 points. Overall, they have better skill positions players and we have better players on the line on both sides of the ball. They ran the ball really well last night, and we need to crush their running game. Caleb Williams will get his yards in the air, and we need to keep him in the picket under pressure. His running For yardage and passing when scrambling are elite skills, and we damn well better figure a way to contain both. I worry that our linebackers don’t have the speed we Need to accomplish both.
On offense, we obviously need to play to our strength, running the ball; but I think we’ll need the Pyne that showed up for the UNC and BYU games to keep their defense honest and off balance.
Always the most exciting game of the year for me and Our purest rivalry game. Counting the days. Go ☘️

Don't forget Bennett 5'11

I think USC has a much better QB and better WRs, while ND's better everywhere else. So it depends how well we slow down their passing attack. If we can slow it down, we can win going away IMO. But any game with them could turn into a shootout, too.

With 27 transfer portal players USC has still only played 2 ranked teams, and have only beaten one if them, giving up 45 points. Of ND OLine plays to its capabilities and we run the ball efficiently, we win. If we don't, then it truly is all about our defense. Gotta pressure and keep the QB in the pocket.

They have 2 ranked wins. Played 3 ranked teams. Same as us

But Williams is a master at escapability. If you watch them he’s better when he gets flushed.

Yes. Pyne s problem isn’t his height. He has an above average arm. And is not great at escaping. Therefore these things exacerbate his height.

Bennett Wilson Flutie Williams, etc all have really good arm talent plus es capability.

Can Clemson make the CFB playoff if they go 12-1 and an ACC title?

You mean below average arm.

His arm is definitely not above average

Gee, our resident Trojan showed up.

May be will tell us again how worried he is about the Notre Dame game.
Hadn't planned on it but since you ask. I am worried about this game as are most SC fans. Most SC fans hate UCAL but respect ND. The reasons I am worried I have outlined above, as have many of you.

I am slightly encouraged by SC's holding of Charbonnet to under one hundred yards, but only slightly. Last night was a great win over a solid and physical team, but we won by three in a game where UCAL's overly-hyped QB turned the ball over four times. It is true however that SC has troubles with running QB and DTR, the five-year QB at UCLA, runs very well.

Anyway, I do believe ND will win the game if it focuses on one particular aspect of defense discussed above. Just my opinion.

Interesting, a statement disproved by you in the same post. And I don’t trust you.. I doubt many do. I would also guess you have very few friends.
Beach…..you’re on an anonymous internet message board, where people use made up names and post messages during all hours of the day. Stop assuming that you can figure out peoples personal lives here. It’s kind of weird.

Fair point. Just trying to figure out the reasons for all the personal attacks from a person I have never met, will never meet and I never been discourteous too, other than in response to an attack on me.
But in response to your post, I think you are right. Why should I care about his pathology?

Don't know you beach, but I've read your posts for years now. Fair, honest and open-minded. Refreshing on this board. Much appreciated actually
