I am not really convinced that that most of those prospects were as high on ND as fans were led to believe.

Most 5 stars either don't have grades or don't want to go to class.

Wasn't talking about you cuzz. I Think BVG was a colossal f*** up and umpteen other mistakes. It is a very tough job. I love the school and what it stands for.

No worries ! Brian Polian is a great recruiter and will make it "RAIN" 5 star and high 4 star players at the end of the year when the top recruits decide !!

I'd be thrilled to finish with Kyler Gordon, Julius Irvin, Cade Mays, Lawrence Keys and a surprise flip.
I agree that he's the least likely. But landing guys Mays, Petit-Frere, St. Brown, etc, etc is the difference between a great class and just another solid class.
2019 is setting up better early with ND winning and Elko recruiting his ass off, but unless something major happens, the best I could see ND closing the 2018 class with would be something like...

Solid finish, but another likely class in the 10-13 range that was a couple key guys from being top 5... Really hoping another top guy or two shakes lose from a current commitment and gives ND a look of they keep winning. A top WDE, a top OT, or a top WR would all be key additions.

Very true about the 5 stars. Not to many engineers and architects in that group. haha
How did Weis do it? Luck? Year in and year out? Players come for the school, the program or the coach. That's why we recruit well early (the school) and disappoint in the end (the coach and the program). It is what it has been for 8 years. Get use to it.
Well then -- this program may never get "revived" !
Only 1 time on the last 50+ years has ND strung together 10 win seasons consecutively -- 3 -- 1991 - 10-3, 1992 - 10-1-1, 1993 11-1 (now, 1988 was 12-0 and 1989 was 12-1, but 1990 was 9-3) -- outside of that stretch -- that is it!
IIO, thanks for giving us the state of recruiting overview. One thing I'd like to ask is what effect do you think the early signing period in December will have on our recruiting strategy? Do you think that will open the door to some recruits that aren't on our radar right now? I ask because, as you know, some teams like UM and some SEC teams don't have a problem accepting verbal commitments early on and then later forcing those players out as they try to land bigger fish. The early signing period is going to be a great way for some recruits to find out just how legitimate their offer is. I imagine we're going to see some recruits try to sign in Dec only to be told to wait until Feb. Do you see that as being the case and, if so, do you see this as something the ND coaches are preparing for in the event they might want to poach some of those recruits who are being slow-played?
Two 4* players committed elsewhere, Boykin (Maryland) and Taylor (Tenn) have expressed a lot of interest since we recently offered, and both have already scheduled an OV in the next week or two. Both are being recruited to play CB.
Yep. Alontae Taylor is a good player too and Boykin has the same safety / CB flexibility as Julius Irvin (with a 6'1 frame), but needs some serious time in the weight room. Joe Wilkins is another CB that is still on the board and BJ Crim is safety on the board that is visiting this weekend.
Julius Irvin and Kyler Gordon appear to be Irish staff's first choice at corner. Tariq Bracy is a kid they are in love with in the Shaun Crawford Nickel corner role. They feel if he was 2 inches taller, everyone would be after him.
I think we'll get at least 2 good corners. I don't want them to just take a safety to take one at this point. They have a lot of them on the depth chart right now and unless It's a Derrik Allen type guy, I go after guy Litchfield Ajavon and Brian Williams in 2019.
Personally, I'd take any of Gordon, Irvin (also an option at safety), Taylor or Bracy and I'd wait for a while on Crim, Boykin, Wilkins and Moala.
Not good. But, it is what it is. They have to start with one season of 10 wins first.
Bodi, would you please get in touch with Polian and tell him he has two simple goals this weekend. Have ST play it’s best game of the season; and get off his butt and reel in Tuliaupupu and St Brown, both of whom are taking OV for the USC game. Both are supposedly heavy USC leans, and yet the rainmaker worked his magic and both are going to be on campus this weekend.
This is great news in my opinion. Still believe that we are a major player in Petite Frere’s recruitment, and getting him on campus for this game in this environment is a really positive development.
