Notre Dame football was back in action Friday for its 14th preseason practice. The Irish swapped out shoulder pads for spider pads for a lighter day of hitting.
Like they did yesterday, the Irish ran through a handful of 11-on-11 plays with first-team and second-team offense and defense.
First-team offense: QB Sam Hartman, RB Gi'Bran Payne, WRs Jayden Thomas, Tobias Merriweather and Jaden Greathouse, TE Mitchell Evans, LT Joe Alt, LG Pat Coogan, C Zeke Correll, RG Rocco Spindler and RT Blake Fisher.
TE Holden Staes also worked into the rotation. RB Audric Estime and WR Chris Tyree were dressed but not called upon.
Second-team offense: QB Steve Angeli, RB Devyn Ford, WRs Rico Flores Jr., Matt Salerno and Jordan Faison, TE Cooper Flanagan, LT Tosh Baker, LG Billy Schrauth, C Ashton Craig, RG Charles Jagusah and RT Aamil Wagner.
First-team defense: VYP Jordan Botelho, NG Howard Cross III, DT Rylie Mills, DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste, LBs JD Bertrand and Marist Liufau, NB Thomas Harper, CBs Benjamin Morrison and Jaden Mickey and S Xavier Watts and Ramon Henderson.
CB Cam Hart was back dressed today but not used for this. LB Jack Kiser wasn't used due to the nickel look.
Second-team defense: VYP Joshua Burnham, NG Gabriel Rubio, DT Jason Onye, DE Boubacar Traore, LBs Drayk Bowen and Jaylen Sneed, NB Micah Bell, CBs Christian Gray and Clarence Lewis, S Antonio Carter II and DJ Brown.
Notre Dame then did a quick strip drill before working on kick returns. The first kick return unit was as follows.
Front line: Watts, Gray, Thomas, Bowen and Bertrand
Middle group: Davis Sherwood, Burnham, Flanagan and Estime.
Back line: Ford and Payne
Ford was the primary return guy. Tyree backed him up. Price and Love as well.
Next the defense worked as a group on interception returns before breaking into individual drills.
During offensive individual drills, the line was working on double teams and outside zone.
The injured players working out on the sideline remained TE Kevin Bauman, DE Aiden Gobaira and WR KK Smith. LB Nolan Ziegler remained away from the team for a personal matter.
We'll scheduled to talk to Chansi Stuckey and several wide receivers in a little bit.
