Was wondering if anyone lives/lived in the PNW and what their general thoughts are about the region. An opportunity presented itself to me recently, however I would have to relocate to that region. With all the news surrounding the current (and ongoing) situation in Portland (homeless crisis, crime, and increased drug use) I’m a bit timid to make the jump. Any info would be extremely helpful! Thanks!

I have never been to the PNW, but I have a friend who lives in Seattle for the last 30 years or so and absolutely loves it.

Basically if you live along the coast or in California, Oregon or Washington it’s the socialist states of America. If you live in the central or eastern regions of the states it’s like living in Nebraska. Beautiful country.

Portland is a beautiful area to live. Make the move.

Friend of mine moved to Seattle. Said it's beautiful and good place to raise a family. Problem is it's so expensive that making less than 8 grand a month is considered low income.

I was there a few years back and stayed by the airport. It seemed like any nice American town. I think the shit storm is confined to downtown, which includes the state government.

If moving to Portland area, check out Washougal/Camas area.

People who live there love it if they aren't in city proper. My sister has lived near Seattle for 20 years or more and would not think of ever moving. Really depends where.

Just hiked the pct through OR and WA and the beauty of the PNW is striking. Many resort towns centered around pristine lakes. Spent a small amount of time in each of Seattle, Portland, Bend, Ashland and other smaller towns. Can't say Seattle/Ptown are better/worse than other big cities, but the views and outdoor rec opportunities are mostly unmatched. I didn't meet a person who was itching to leave...

Thank you so much, everyone! Y’all really have eased my mind quite a bit!
Clover,
The Pacific Northwest is a very large area with tremendous differences between geographic areas. Personally, I wouldn’t want to work or live in either Seattle or Portland. Two beautiful cities being ruined by crazy Public policies, imho. But there are great areas to live within 30 miles of each. If being close to these cities or their airports is not a consideration, then you Really have an incredible variety of places to choose from. Bend Oregon, for example, is a high energy area with a lot of young professionals, a good place to raise a family, and outdoor activity oriented. We collectively could fill pages with interesting towns and cities that are a world apart from the crap you read and hear about Portland and Seattle.
