Honestly, the only con I can really think of is the whole "losing independence" thing... But haven't we already done that at least partly?
I really don't think the argument of "rationalizing the brand" or "rationalizing recruiting" hold much water any more. Especially considering the fact that ND would be in the ACC, which outside of Texas and California, houses the next top 5 or 6 states of high school football talent.
Scheduling would be a bit tougher taking away 2 open scheduling opportunities, but we're already limited to scheduling the likes of Temple, UMass, etc. We could keep the October/November rotation of USC/Stanford, make the Navy series the opening game of every season and still have one open spot for whomever we want to schedule.
I understand the nostalgia and pride that go along with our independent status, but at this point I'm beginning to see the positives catching up to the negatives.
