I do not believe that we have seen much of Procise being split out at WR so far this season. The fact that he is our starting runningback could give us a huge advantage in matchup opportunities. Defensive coaches are always looking at substitutions to know how many receivers are in the game and then they match up acordingly. For example if there are 3 wide outs in the game then the defense will typically put in a nickel package. But in reality, ND's RB has WR skills. So ND can split out Procise and Clemson would have to match him up with a LB or Safety. This would be a huge matchup problem for Clemson that I would like to see ND explore.

Its certainly possible we could see that coming up and it would be interesting. We have lined Prosise out wide and then motioned him as the guy running the jet sweep, but not sure if ND has left him out there at the snap.

That's coming and so is the Jail Break screen to Will Fuller. We all know that play and so does every Coaching Staff ND plays this season. ND tried it once against Texas (I think Chris Brown ran the route) but i don't remember seeing it since that first game.

Against Georgia Tech Fuller gained about 25 yards and fumled at the end of the play. That was run out of a slightly different look though with the stacked receivers.

Who the hell is Procise?

Not raining on your post but Notre dame basically runs two formations. Two wide outs and one in the slot, one TE...one RB
The second formation is empty set.
Basically Notre Dame is always in a formation that already requires a nickel or dime type defense. So the defense basically always has its fleet of foot personnel in the game.

If the dome ran conventional offense with a fullback then your strategy would work great ...but that can never happen because we don't even have a fullback on the roster and BK seems allergic to calling under center plays.

How many touchdowns does this kid need to score before people start getting the spelling of his name correct?

It's Prosise ...

Lou Holtz moved Ricky Watters to WR in 88 when he felt ND lacked a big play threat at WR. When Rocket as a Frosh emerged as a game breaker, he moved Watters back into the backfield for 89. ND may have the finest WR corps in the nation and have finest big play threat in the nation in Jeff Fuller, There's no good reason to move a player who is having a record setting season and the only back on the team that fully understands pass protection to another position. Seems like you are giving up a ton and getting nothing in return.

He didn't say to move Prosise to WR; just line him up there on occasion.

ND has 5 guys on the outside ( Fuller, Carlisle, Brown, Robinson and Jones) that can win 1 on 1 match ups, ND has 1 guy who can run the ball, knows the playbook, knows pass protection and blitz pick ups. So my question is why would you want to bolster a strength and weaken a weakness?

Also as the previous poster noted, ND by benefit of Running a Spread Offense forces the opponent to always be in a Nickel or Dime defense, so you are unlikely to get Prosise matched up with anyone but another DB.

Those are all valid points. I'm not actually advocating ND do this, but I don't think it would be a bad idea to do it once in a while either. ND can play 11 personnel and do anything from empty to a 1 tight 1 back formation. So if Clemson wants to play 6-7 DB's, ND can play a more run friendly formation and force those guys to play the run.

I also think playing Prosise out wide could open up screen possibilities and get him some more opportunities (and ND does line him up wide to run jet sweep).

The OP and I aren't advocating a full time thing. Just saying its not a horrible idea. Its just forcing the defense to line up and cover a multitude of things. That's all.

There are alot of instances where ND has a TE or 2 in the game. On early downs trying to get him matched up one on one with LBs or safeties makes since. Cause you have to put extra guys in the box to stop the run. ND's top 2 rushers are averaging over 8 yards a carry. I know its only 4 games, but 8 yards is alot. Just putting him in motion every now and then will completely throw defensive alignments out of whack or even possibly cause the defense to call a timeout. Alot depends on how much Aliz'e Jones and Kizer can improve during the season. The potential versatility and the depth of this offense is unbelievable.
