It appears that Power-5 schools are going to begin dropping FCS schools from their schedules because of the SOS concerns for playoff berths. I see most people appear to be applauding this and for the most part I agree. However there is a 2nd side to this and that is the FCS schools. For many of these schools, they have relied on the paychecks from these Power-5 match ups to help support their entire athletic program.
For many years the Power-5 schools and FCS schools looked at this as a win win situation. The Power-5 school had an opening game that was in many ways just a glorified scrimmage to prepare for their season and the FCS school got to cash a big check to support its athletic program. Now this big check will be gone and their athletic programs will suffer.
Just like any "reform" in all aspects of life, there are often undesirable consequences.
