Hoping Daelin Hayes will commit to ND .But just looking at our other defensive targets . Rashan Gary will be a tough get .Michigan supposedly has been his favorite along with some SEC teams with ND further down on his list. With the way Harbaugh and Michigan are playing ,not allowing the last 3 teams any scores; Michigan probably remains the top school on Gary's list.

As far as the Michigan high school player ,Khalid Kareem who is a verbal to Alabama , I can see him changing his mind and deciding on Michigan . Don't know where we are with him .

Our offense seems to be in good shape for next year . Hope Fuller stays .
But our defense has major holes with some D -backs ,L-backers ,and the D- line graduating . Greatest need ..

you're on the right track, there are defensive prospects that are seriously considering ND.
FWIW go browse the titles on the 247 site.

from what I've been reading lately Izo I believe Kareem is going to visit our irish as talks have heated up between both sides and that recruiting insiders think our irish get him if he decides not to go to bama. and don't forget Izo about 5 star GA ATH Robertson who we lead for and who can play either side of the ball

If ND continues to win, particularly this weekend with a lot of key guys making their official visit for the USC game, defensive recruiting will be just fine!

ND has plenty of DB's on their board and is firmly in the mix for guys such as...

Dontae Vaughn
Ikenna Okeke
David Long Jr
Devin Studstill
Damar Hamlin

As far as linebackers are concerned, don't be surprised if ND only takes one from is this class. ND has been collecting elite linebackers in recent years. Guys like Nyles Morgan, Te'von Coney, Asmar Bilal, Josh Barajas are the future of a core that will return James Onwualu and Greer Martini next year as well. With Jamir Jones already in the mix, and ND looking more and more likely to land Daelin Hayes (as long as ND sees him as a linebacker), the Irish aren't in major need of LB's in the 2015 cycle. Furthermore, with some of the elite WR's still left on ND's board, we could see Chase Claypool on the defensive side of the ball as well down the road.

Defensive line is a different position entirely. ND has plenty of DT's and NG's on their roster and will likely only need 1 or 2 in the class. Defensive end has been gutted by transfer, however, and with only Ogundeji (who is long term prospect) in the class, ND needs find 2-3 quality ends (preferably pass rushers) before the end of the cycle.

Thanks for the good info, IIO.

Question---is Claypool the kind of physical, nasty-hitter who could move over to D?

Thanks in advance.

do you think IrishinOntario that our irish still take Okeke if Vaughn verbals because I've been reading that they may not take both. I read that Vaughn canceled his TENN visit for this past weekend and that our irish are in very good shape to land him. would love to get Hamlin but the home town school in PITT will be tough to beat and even more so now since his parents just had a son recently that he seems to be very close with now but I know he really likes our irish though

Well Ontario, you nailed it precisely. Now that Vaughn has committed, sounds as though we are still going after one more defensive back, which could turn out to be Robinson. As you say, we have a number of highly skilled young linebackers in waiting, and adding Hayes would be a huge get. The area we continue to struggle with is the strong side and weak side DE positions, and I am at a loss to understand this. Most elite players yearn for a chance to play early, play on a big time program with lots of national exposure, and of course, compete for a NC. ND offers all of this, (although the NC takes a leap of faith), and great academics, and it seems we should be able to bring is three outstanding and/or elite DE's this recruiting cycle.

Vaughn and Studstill are high possibilities.
