Portal Roundup: OL Caleb Johnson enters transfer portal

On another note Tywone Malone from Ole Miss. 6-4 300 pound DT from Bergen Catholic is in the portal. Anyone think ND would try to get this guy? He was offered out of HS.

Any word on Kollie? A few posters seemed pretty confident he was leaving. if he’s waiting for Blue/gold game to get a sense of how he’ll be utilized my guess is he plays a ton.

I read he’s not playing in the blue gold game There’s like 15 guys not playing. Something like 5 tight ends out.

sometimes a kid has to look for or make his own ‘break’; who knows he may have been a hidden gem!

He’s in concussion protocol. Does anyone here know how many times Kollie has been in concussion protocol? Three?
Yikes, back in the day it wouldn’t have mattered. In todays landscape a school will probably get sued if they keep marching a kid out on the field.

parents want a payday! one way or another!

So is he transferring or not, then?
"So is he transferring or not, then?"

At this point, no -- and there have been no indications that he is thinking about it.

that said -- what happens after spring practice is over -- is anyone's guess. No one knows anything about his situation.

Alright, there you go. No one knows anything. Safe enough answer. You guys are learning. That's how you cover your ass. Unequivocally and terse declarative statement that no one knows anything at all, and thus any opinion or speculation formed, especially one that might somehow portray ND football or its future prospects, as in any way being unfavorable or inauspicious, are to be regarded as essentially wild guesses of no particular merit whatsoever with no particular factual basis underpinning.... That's what optimism looks like in the Information Age the year 2023!

I'm going to guess that he's going to transfer. If it's true that he's not moving up the depth chart, that his career is stalling, and that younger players are threatening to pass him up....

I can understand some guys transferring; they believe they are not getting a fair shake where they are.

But to me most seem to transfer because they are not confident in their own abilities to win a starting job

Though I guess if you look around and know you have no chance because there are 5 guys better than you at your position I can also understand looking for a place you can start.

My guess is that Kollie, Tucker, Carmody and Keanaaina leave soon after the game on Saturday.
I think this is a good starting point for speculation...

I'd expect 2-3 more. Some may take medicals vs transferring as well. I think it will all clear up in next two weeks.

Why do people think Tucker is going to leave
"Why do people think Tucker is going to leave"

Probably the same reason they think others are leaving -- no one has any flippin idea of what is going on, but will listen to gossip that they are hearing 3rd/4th hand

Alright so Lorenzo Styles is gone. Nice effin' move MF....

Although I endorsed the position switch, that was stupid, as the guy was quietly already a fairly highly productive WR for us, ready to step up to a standout level of production as a rising junior.... And seems to want to play WR. My only point was that I thought as a HS prospect, I liked his film better at DB, and that's it. Now that he's already established at WR, you probably should just leave him there. Especially when we're already set at CB, and he'll go from being a starter at WR to a backup on defense.

And now he's effin' gone. So good god damn going.....

“Fairly highly productive” … no

Increased playing time and decreased production from year 1 to year 2 … this guy was not headed for a breakout season. He couldn’t seize the day when we had 4 healthy WRs, he was on the struggle bus with better players coming in. More drops than TDs. Maybe a fresh start is what he needs.

He caught 55 passes in his true frosh and sophomore years. That's very respectable productivity, with every reason to hope and expect that his last two seasons could be a breakout for him. And MF truly is guilty of rank incompetence, if he precipitated this transfer, solely by his own arbitrary decision to make this position switch, and needlessly upsetting the applecart by trying to make bold decisions that didn't need to be made.

It's also possible that Styles was going to transfer no matter what happened, and the so the move really had no bearing on anything. But I'm going to go with the former....

No it’s not. We had 5 scholarship receivers and he couldn’t draw targets because he wasn’t getting open and he was dropping passes. With no better options he was still catching 2 passes a game. There’s no reason at all to conclude he was a budding star, that’s just dishonest rhetoric to fit your story that the coaches screwed this up. Some kernels pop and some don’t. This one didn’t.

Oh really, so you know all about Lorenzo Styles. Nobody knows shit about anything that's coming out of spring practice, and nobody has any clue about SH or TB, that's just people blathering in total ignorance....

But yet you know all the nuances of Lorenzo Styles, and are intimate with all his subtle failings and shortcomings that clearly necessitated a position switch. So don't ever talk to me, as a slavish ND alum, about dishonest rhetoric regarding the football team's fortunes, I mean holy shit has there ever been a more delusional, and thoroughly intellectually dishonest bunch of homers than hardcore ND fans. Or haters in the case of BK, where the pendulum swung in the other direction but the bullshit was just as thick. There is absolutely nothing outrageous or strained or improbable about suggesting that Styles could have been ready for a big bump in his stat line, based on the performance and production of his first two seasons. Seasons where he out-statted both of his touted WR classmates, and yet they're not moving to DB, nor is their lack of production being cited to discredit their abilities. Only Styles. So please don't ever talk about dishonest rhetoric again.....

I think you guys of course fully realize how laughably, glaringly biased and self-serving and tendentious you are in your various takes, you'd have to be literally retarded to be unaware of it. But you're just not going to stop, and that's the challenge, and you consider it as such. To come up with some at least minimally plausible defense of whatever the F MF ends up doing, even something as obviously as questionable as Styles' position switch was, because that's your effin' duty as a humble, unquestioning servant of 'our lady'.... Gives your life meaning, I suppose.....

The others I've heard the rumors. Not with him

Well apparently, according to the scuttlebutt, Styles had been personally anticipating transferring for some time now, well before spring football. So whatever that's worth.....

He is a slot receiver....half the time it is 7 yards off line of scrimmage when he makes the catch. Pers could do that!
