Phil Knight ready to pay 10 mil a yr for Oregon coach

And to whom is he planning on paying this amount? Does Knight think just by paying someone $10 million it assures them of winning?

JH is NOT the highest paid coach. He would've if he went to Texas but turned it down. Him going to M had nothing to do with $$$. He could've went to USC or Dolphins and made double what he's making

Not sure but Oregon proved it could get some talented offensive players and doesn't have restrictions in terms of academics, etc.. if they can get a huge name who can recruit defense, they will be a force again.

Of course that amount of money doesn't guarantee anything but they have nothing to lose do they? ND boosters can come up with money if they wanted, like Michigan did to get Harbaugh, but no big coaches want to come here anymore. Why coach at a school with so many restrictions & so much pressure? Guys like Saban & Meyer would laugh at ND even with a 3 mil raise! :D

Saban and Meyer don't want to worry about players going to real classes and graduating players either. They want a program that is essentially a football-first, minor league NFL team. Period. I still fail to understand why so many ND fans are unable to comprehend this.

Maybe Chip would go back home as savior for $10M.

Classic. I think most ND fans comprehend the academic side of ND. What most do not seem to comprehend is the days of ND being a football power and playing with the big boys are dead and gone. And nothing will ever bring those days back. That ended in 1996. That seems to be the disconnect imo.

Money will never assure you of a championship, but it sure does help you get there quickly *cough cam newton cough*. U$C *reggie bush*, crimson tide DJ Fluker. O$U jersey gate. If you are willing to spend $10 million on a coach, why wouldn't you put some money towards the impermissible beneficiaries...... I see a lot of "student" athletes in the SEC come from impoverished backgrounds wear some suits even I can't afford, do interviews on tv before their football games. Lets hope ND never goes this route.

Classic is a clown. Hopefully he can tell us who won the debate team showdown with the University of Chicago. Why are there academia people in here? Why do they care so much about a 3-9 team? Shouldn't they be on the academic board?

Football made this school. Just let it go in the dumpster if you want it to so badly. Oh, yea, you scumbags want all that football money still. ND admin. = hypocrites.

Chip Kelly claims he wants to stay in the NFL but that may be to justify getting $10 million from the Ducks. His NFL record is not on its own worthy of $10 million/season.

I don't like Knight, but his financial support of the Duck football program helped create one of the more successful programs in the country for a decade. The locker room, the audeo and video room, the weight room, the practice facility, the stadium, the different uniform each week, etc... all created the image that it was cool to be a Duck, and talented recruits bought in. Of course, having the illegal high school father figure in Texas pushing kids Oregon's way for cash helped as well. Hope they finish behind Stanford and Washington each and every year they shell out $10M for their coach.

Harbaugh is reported making $9 million a year making him the highest paid. USC and the Dolphins were never going to pay him $18 million or even $10million (Would make him the highest paid NFL coach by $2million)

Did you not see where JH absolutely did not want to be the highest paid coach at M? He wanted to make sure that there was $$$ for all his assistants! Do his assistants get paid well? Absolutely. But if you noticed, most of them were quite successful in the NFL and NCAA. He doesn't NEED 9 mil a year. He knows what it takes to win, and seems to do it very well!
As far as the dolphins, yes he was wanted, but the owner knew that M wanted him so he laid off unless there was no way he'd go back to college.
This stuff really isn't hard to find out

None of that addresses the facts tho

Wut? I don't think anyone is saying the Michigan assistants are not paid well or arguing any of those other issues. What are you doing man?

so playing for the NC in 2012 was a mirage? and being close to qualifying for the playoffs in another year was also a mirage?

We can get sufficient talent to compete at the highest level; the talent that goes into the NFL year after year shows THAT to all except morons like you.

Bet Ol' Les would go to Oregon for a lot less than 10 mil. Then Knight could spend some money on a timekeeper coach to stand next to Les and take charge in the last minutes of a close game. All kidding aside, the guy is a solid coach. Probably will wind up at Baylor or Purdue. Can recruit but needs a QB coach. Oregon has plenty of those.
