This might be the best coaching hire in Brian Kellys tenure. Bob Diaco on steroids !!
Kelly can concentrate on offense and Elko defense.

Elko is in, purse is alive and cvgr is searching for his safe space.
It's not a sexy hire, but it's a good one. Hope he brings DL coach Dan Cohen with him. Cohen has been a DC at several stops, including most recently, at Rutgers. He was also the HC at Hostra.

LB: ??? Greg Hudson (wouldn't be surprised if he's retained)
CB: Todd Lyght
Also wouldn't be shocked if Elston is retained as the linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator, with Elko as the playcaller, similar to what Urban did at Ohio State with Schiano and Fickell.

I don't think it will be a question of work ethic on the recruiting trail. He'll grind. We'll see how his message translates. First guy he needs to go after... Current Wake Forest commit and Georgia product, 6'5, 225lb WDE Michael Allen.

First off, it will be darn near impossible to be worse than what kelly/bvg built. Anything, is better than our awe inspiring "I am going to tickle you D".....

I'd actually take both Dan Cohen and Derrick Jackson... I actually know Derrick a little bit from when he was up in Syracuse and coaching in the MAC. We crossed paths a number of times at coaching clinics, camps and conventions. Always seemed like a good dude and comes off as a guy who would be a good recruiter... Has had success coaching on all three levels of the defense, and with two African American coaches in Booker and Gilmore likely out on your staff, it would be a good move to bring another into the mix if you feel he's the right guy for the job.

Either way if he makes 1.65m we get what we paid for...if he makes 4 million then he is way overpaid.

88 you are wrong. He makes substantially more. 4-5M neighborhood. The compensation streams are a little different from other schools and, since ND is not a public institution, they do not need to be made available on public domain. They are real and offered and negotiated, by all parties. He understands that all of this is part of the total compensation package as head coach. To believe a website is really stretching it. He is very well taken care of, - we both agree too well taken care of.
Private or public...you are the second person now to suggest 4-5 million with no evidence. If so fine ..but to be so sure of that with no evidence I don't understand the point.
Again...either way...if he's paid that it's over paid...if he's paid 1.65 million we get what we pay for.
