Why does our offense after 7 years not operate as fast as Moorhead's does in its 1st season? They get to the line......do a quick check....then RUN THE DARN PLAY!!!!! And have done pretty well too.

Horrible head coaching under BK

and it took most ND fans 7+ to figure it out; they were stymied by their own 'expertise'

Remember when Kelly was hired ,he was going to install a fast spread offense. Well ,this year in particular , it slowed to a halt Kizer getting the ball with about 5 seconds left on the play clock on a lot of plays .

Watching some of these conference championship , players are well schooled . They know their assignments and seem to be in position to make plays . Even the teams ( Virginia Tech and Wisconsin ) that lost looked organized ,and were cohesive units .

By game 12 or 13 you expect precision not the same poor discipline, penalties and lack of execution we were seeing in game 1 and 2

That was the first sign that we were sold a bag of goods with Kelly. His offensive play calling was nothing close to uptempo. In fact, he was burning timeouts left and right trying to get the plays in on time. It became very obvious he was no expert at running an uptempo offense.

The hilarious thing is that Kelly and Jack met with NBC early on to have them restructure their commercial breaks to accommodate Kelly's uptempo style. It's actually comical looking at it now.

As a PA guy I grew to "dislike" joepa and therefore "statepenn". But I liked Franklin at MD & Vandy.....and am happy for his success......after a rough start. psu fans are still over the top.......but am happy for the players. Hmmmmm.....wonder what he will have in year 7........

Spot on - BK got every one excited about his up tempo offense he was going to run - what a farce that has been. And I too remember him saying how NBC was going to have to reconfigure their tv commercials / breaks to keep up w/ his high octane fast pace offense.

Now NBC is kicking themselves for signing onto that 15 year extension.

Their viewership had to be pretty bad at the end of last season.]

Penn State's offense is better coached than ours (and so is their defense, for that matter). Moorhead was the head coach at Fordham and has been a great hire for them.

Penn State recruiting:

Last five years (1012-2016): 55, 42, 25, 15, 23...

Trace McSorley: 3* Athlete, no national rank, rated #50 in athlete category.

Harbaugh, Meyer, Franklin, Petersen
the top, truly top head coaching talents do not need 12 year contracts to get a team playing well!

There are others that have turned teams around in 3 years or less. That is why any excuse for an 8th year is ludicrous! And that is aside from the overall state of the program, the off field incidents, academic scandels and the character issues of the head coach himself!

I think it's more that college coaches not just Kelly try to control the offense instead of teaching the qbs how to read defenses. It's about knowing your personnel Kizer has been in the system enough years to know exactly what's going to be called. Personally I hate that about the spread in college. That's why I like pro style offenses.

yep

the head coach is the game plan now; and he has made himself the focus.
It takes an overwhelming talent (Cam) to overshadow the HC these days.
Look, Kizer is very raw talent; he was getting by only on talent, and not developed talent but natural talent.
He is still a work in process.
