OT: Winston vs Mariota, who do you prefer?

A bit surprised that Winston is rated higher by NFL scouts. They seem to fear that Mariota is just a "system QB". (Was Cam Newton a system QB in college?). I didn't watch all of FSU's games, but Winston seemed to throw a lot of forced balls that ended up being intercepted. Mariota hardly ever did that; but maybe those PAC defenses weren't as tough...

I have them almost as a toss up, but I am no professional evaluator.

What do you think?

Yes this needed another thread. We have a bad enough time trying to corral Epic without someone starting another thread to give him a platform for his BS. You couldn't have just jumped in on the 2 or 3 threads in the last week or so dealing with this same topic?

I did not see two or three threads that asked about the two.

I was just surprised that the NFL scouts seem to be united in favoring Winston. I don't see why this has to be a contentious topic. Both Heisman winners, both won games at an extremely high rate, etc...

I have no intention of calling Winston a bum. If others also refrain from baiting, I think we can keep things civil.

I had no idea that he was thought to be so much more "NFL ready". Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention to the Duck's "gimmick" offense.

If I had to take one or the other, I would take Mariota because I think he is a better player now, will be a better NFL player and is a decent human being which cannot be said about Winston. Yes, I would go with Tony Dungy and quite a few other people analyzing the whole think and go with Mariota.

Having said that, If I was a GM and could do what I wanted I would trade the pick and get what I could to improve my team which all of those with an early pick need to so before they get a quarterback.

Finally, I would not cheer for any team that had Winston on the roster just as I cheer every game for someone to knock Rothlisberger out of the game for doing similar things to women and getting off because of evidence tampering and money. May they both rot in Hell!

Hope I helped sort out my view.

hmmmmmmm..........I'm starting to think maybe this Epic guy is a little off. Makes me kinda like him even more. But why would he start a thread like this? He knows, as we all do, Winston is a monumental punk and will have no chace at all of staying out of trouble once someonepl aces a few ,illion in his bank account. It's gonna be fun to watch except for the carnage he'll leave in his wake. So why act interested in where he'll go in the draft?

If I thought that Mariota could stay healthy occasionally running with the ball, like Seahawk Wilson, I'd take him.

But if I want a big pocket passer who I can count on to sneak 1st downs now and then, like Steeler Rothlisberger, then I'll take Winston.

If I don't want to babysit a head case, then I'll take Mariota over Winston.

If I think I can handle the circus outside off the field, then maybe Winston is my choice.

And if I'm the Eagles Coach Kelly, I'd move a mountain to get Mariota.

I think I'd be happy with either one if I were a Bucs fan.

If I was the owner or GM, I'd draft Mariota. I think he is a safer draft pick. He could be good, but he could be the next Joey Harrington.

If I were a Bucs fan, I'd want Winston. IF he can keep it together off of the field, I think the sky is the limit for him. Playing with house money, I'd draft him without hesitation.

if I'm a nfl gm its Winston all the way. well schooled in a pro style offense. can make all the throws. exceptional football IQ. I like mariota a lot too but it said to pick.

For what its worth McShay is saying Winston will get the highest grade of any QB in the last decade other then Andrew Luck. Absolutely killed it in team interviews and white board sessions.

Lots of good info in this article.
How can a guy that smart do such dumb things? - steal crab legs, shoot BB guns, abuse cleat chasers, shout obscene meme, etc. There must be at least one screw loose in that brain of his. You can't lock him up at the football training facility until game time.

Name one #1 pick who was successful in the NFL with anywhere near the baggage this guy brings.

Smart teams will pass just so they don't have protesters picketing every game.

Of course you can't name one, because there never has been a #1 pick with Winston's stains.

GM's should pass on this bum.

you really have an unhealthy obsession. if Winston was from say Georgia you wouldn't even be on these threads.

So weeks ago he was saying Mariota is the better prospect, and telling us the Bucs and all the experts said so. He was proven multiple time that the footbAll evaluators think the opposite and now he has shifted the argument to #1 picks with baggage are bums and he won't make it in the league because no #1 pick like him has. The obsession doesn't let him admit he was wrong, like a robot he must attack Winston.

I think both mariota and Winston are way better options than any qb's in free agency this year.

I would agree that both Winston and Mariota have great potential but think MM is a far safer and wizef pick.

If I was the one holding an early pick I would talk to other teams and trade the pick and fill far bigger needs.

As the resident GM would you care to share, "what are Tampa's biggest needs?"

I believe they have QBs mike glennon and seth lobato on their roster.

McCown is a free agent....

i am anxiously awaiting your next round of stupidity.

cgvr may be as dumb as others have shown!

McCown is not a member of the Tampa Bay team, Glennon has as much upside as taking someone new and until the OL is fixed no one can be successful behind it.

I wrote that McCown was a free agent you moron.

Also, would you care to share how glennon would project out as the first pick in any NFL draft like winston currently ranks?

glennon may have upside potential only because he's about tapped out on the downside....

When winston is the first pick I look forward to your eating crow.

I think that pick will open a new level of idiocy from you so I look forward to it.

Have you asked your buddy Lou who would be his first pick?

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/quarterbackRating

cgvr, are you directing your nonsense at me? When did I ever say Winston would not be the first pick. I did not. I wouldn't take either one, but some suggest Tampa take Winston, some suggest MM and many agree with me to trade the pick, if they can.

Why are you so stupid?

Can we stop using "many" when we are referring to a collective. Epic fails miserably and gets tired of being clowned so its a log off and long on kinda day I guess. Never change man.

I kind of forgot that Tampa Bay had the first pick. They need to sell some tickets. It the two are rated at all closely, you have to figure they will go with the home state pick. Probably sell 5-10 grand more season tickets with Winston.

Yay, another idiotic opening question from argus.

Did you forget who you were again?

How many times did God whack you with the dummy stick?

It has to be the all time record.

I figured out why you post so much about fsu.

It's obviously because you have nothing to add to this ND football board.

Your football knowledge is limited to crab legs, bb guns and other crap...

I may be stupid, but one of us has an ND degree signed by Fr. Hesburgh...

Do you remember him?

Here's what you incoherently wrote: "OMG, Father Sorin is rolling over in
his grave and Fatber Ted is simply shaking his hard"

Yeah, I'm stupid....

Tampa is packed with FSU fans and will obviously sell more tickets with Jameis just like they did in the early 2000's when they had several FSU guys on the team.

Yeah, but I am sure there are a lot of bandwagon FSU fans now that the Gators are in a down period. Winston has to help vs Mariota wrt attendance.

Tampa has always had lots of FSU fans.

Winston is a true Criminole and will be out of the league in two years or sooner. Mariota is class. Winston is trash.
