OT-Steve Bartman

Yeah, I never saw it....except for 1,000 times. If you could follow what I wrote, you'd realize I said that other fans were reaching for the ball. However, some weren't. If you follow the game, you should realize the gravity of the situation and allow a vital catch to be made. Look at the fans to the left of Bartman, they were backing away.

Hey idiot try watching the damn video and watch the whole thing. There is at least 3 or 4 fans reaching for the ball. Holy crap you are an idiot. Some one else has posted the video and you can clearly see other fans reaching for the ball. Are you as blind as a bat?

I think you're trying to read a bit too much into it. You can go to a video if you like. Who said anything about goats? Superstitions are silly, and the WS of 2017 should convert the most gullible. Put another way, the rabbit's foot didn't bring any luck to the rabbit.
How can you watch the video and say other fans where not reaching for the ball? Bartman just happened to be the one closest to the ball.

I could have copied 1 million of this laugh emoji and it would not be enough to capture the irony of you calling anybody an idiot. I already stated that other fans were reaching for the ball...that wording was in my quote that you apparently couldn't interpret. My point was that not every fan was. You make a total eclipse look bright.

Giving Bartman the ring is the right thing to do. The man endured enough through the years and it's about time to let it go!
I'm all for having a goat day, giving all goats a discount or even freebies, and maybe even a black cat day.
I'm 74 years old and a lifelong Cub fan and the number 108 or 1908 have no significance now. I'm glad they won it in my lifetime!:)

If they have a goat day, let's hope the wind is blowing out.

Absolutely!
The goat, or at least his descendants, has had a good life over the years. I'm not sure if you live in Chicago, but there are Billy Goat's all over the greater Loop area in Chicago. An actual goat can sometimes be observed in some of the establishments. This makes me suspicious about where they're getting the beer.

There have been a lot of revisionist takes on Bartman over the passage of time, especially following the Cubs winning a World Series. Here's my take, which hasn't changed a bit since I, as a horrified Cubs fan, watched the murky aftermath of the play that rocketed him into notoriety. Had he not interfered with the ball, Alou almost certainly would have caught the second out, and with 2 outs and nobody on base, the Cubs would have been in a much better position to win the game and go to the WS. Other things contributed to the downfall--Gonzalez's botched handling of a double play, Prior losing his composure, and the failure in Game 7--but none of that erases the issue of Bartman's interference costing the team an almost sure out. I've heard people say that "it was doubtful" that Alou would have caught the ball. To that, BS!!!!, he was right there to make the play. I've also heard that anybody would have interfered. Again, BS!!!!!. While many would, there have been instances where fans have intelligently backed away and let their team's player make a play, and I'd think that that would be accentuated in a potential NLCS clinching game. Bartman was supposed to be an intelligent fan, as he played in a highly competitive amateur league. He should have known better to have done what he did. If you notice him in the video, you can see that he was wearing headphones, as he was listening to the game on the radio. This might have distracted him from where he was relative to a guy trying to make a play.

Bartman never deserved the abuse he received--his reaction in the moment was understandable--and the way he's handled himself has been class personified, but that still doesn't wash away his role in contributing to the Cubs downfall.
You posted a picture of the Cubs fans backing away from the ball. However if you watch the VIDEO you will see several fans reaching for the ball. I guess using your logic they where "not that intelligent." You look like a fool posting that stupid picture then some one else calling you out. Do you have an emoji for that?

BTW are you a true Cubs fan or are you a front runner?

Those same fans who can be seen backing away from the ball in the picture that I posted can be seen doing just that in the video. Watch the slow motion replay and that categorically indicates that.

Who feeds you? Who dresses you?

The question now is; since the Cubs have won a WS and are a legit team, and seem to be setup for the next several years..... will all their fans stick around?

They have fans worldwide who supported them as the 'lovable losers.' And stuck with them and watched atrocious baseball for literally a decade.

In my experience (never having lived close to Chicago), most Cubs fans are comprised of people who don't really follow baseball and just know it is the popular thing to do to root for the Cubs.... as it won't really upset anyone (until now because they are good).

Why would anyone think that a perennially winning team chock full of exciting players would fail to generate fan support in a major market?

Because the majority of their fans started to like them when they were perennially garbage.
You can think that if you want, but it's hard to take your view seriously when you admit that you've never lived anywhere near Chicago. BTW, "lovable loser" has never been a term Cubs fans have applied to their team. It was a label slapped on by the media.

Well the fact that I have never lived around Chicago is exactly my point. It makes sense to be a Cubs fan if you are from the area...... they have a lot of fans around the country who supported a horrible franchise for a century.

And I never said the cubs called themselves the lovable losers? Doesn't matter who labeled them with that, it is true. The fans went and sold out the 'friendly confines' for decades supporting well below average baseball. That gave the owners no motivation to win, as they were making money hand over fist while putting out a crappy product in a very old, outdated, stadium.

A smart fan-base would never support a team that sucked that bad for that long.

Your Cardinals hatred for the Cubs, no doubt fueled by the Cubs having roughed the Cardinals up pretty badly over the past few years, is duly noted. You talk about smart fans. I don't think a smart fan would believe that a team would lose support explicitly because it's winning. You can always hope, though.
