I happened to be watching the Cubs-Astros last night, when a foul ball hit just passed the 3rd base dugout struck a 5 year old. Below is an article calling for extending current netting immediately; it's very hard to refute.
As a side note, I was particularly irritated with the tv announcer(s)--Bob Costas, I believe?-- who downplayed and incorrectly described how far the netting extended. They let MLB generally, and the Houston Astros specifically, off the hook for what has been incredibly slow action to prevent further injuries of this nature. As the article indicates, there have been several such instances fairly recently, including one death.
