OT - LAX Overtime

I don't know if this has already been discussed but I was surprised on Saturday to find out that LAX overtime is Golden Goal / Sudden Death. For a sport where save percentages are only in the 50-55% range this seems like a miserable way to determine the outcome of games. Why wouldn't they just play a 5-10 min OT period?
