Lady friend, who passed away this past Wednesday from metastatic ovarian cancer at the age of 58. Her name is Karen, and she grew up and lived in Johnson City, Tennessee. I first met her in 2008. She was a wonderful person, very intelligent and beautiful and was a world traveler having visited over 60 countries. Her cancer was first diagnosed around 2011 and went into remission after surgery and chemotherapy only to come back in 2015. Her cancer spread to her lungs, abdomen and eventually her liver. I went with her on multiple medical visits where she received chemotherapy and other immunotherapy medication which prolonged her life, as she loved to live and explore. She could find beauty in almost anything. In 2018, she went with me to the Wake Forest game, but couldn't watch the second half as she had to rest in the car. She outlived her five-year mortality rate, but eventually her cancer turned worse in the fall of 2019. She didn't think she would make it past last Christmas, but she was a fighter. After the new year, she grew weaker and weaker to the point where in the last months of her life she was bedridden, and needed help getting out of bed. At around 3 p.m. this past Wednesday, after fighting the good fight, she ultimately lost and was taken away to heaven. So if somebody is on campus and could light a candle at The Grotto and say a prayer for Karen so she can rest in eternal peace it would be greatly appreciated as would any prayers that you can find the time to write on this post. Thank you in advance. She will be sorely missed.
