I'm labeling this OT because it has nothing to do with ND's position, but the entire idea of the playoff committee isn't working and it's stupid. Nicole Auerbach asking the committee chair "do the games actually matter" was perfect today. The idea that they're going to find the best 4 teams is a stupid goal, because it just leads to thinking about who you think is great based on the roster and then reverse engineering how to get them in. The games are becoming worthless and that's really bad.
We need to stop being so hung up on making sure that the objective best team wins the championship. That really only works in professional sports where you can have long playoffs with series to play. Does anyone complain at the end of the NCAA tournament that the team that won may not be the best team? Same with the super bowl.
Expand playoffs, go to a BCS formula, I don't know, but this can't continue. The rankings of Clemson (if we're being honest, who hasn't really beaten anyone), Florida, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Georgia, Oklahoma, USC, Coastal Carolina, just can't all be reconciled except with just constantly yelling eye test and coming up with weird stats to indicate how badly teams that you want to move up beat up also rans. It's all just dumb.
