OT Briles out at Baylor

Religion has nothing to do with scandals in college sports. SMU and BC are two glaring examples. Baylor has become an outlaw program and now it's interesting to see alumni and boosters washing their hands of this sad state. It all started with the basketball program and evidently that episode didn't raise any red flags for the future of Baylor athletic teams. Miami of the Big 12. If this involved their daughters, would the Baylor staff and administration been so callous for the sake of winning? Well, it's Baylor's sewer now and the victims need to be remembered whenever this story is told. What is it about Waco that brings so much negative attention to itself?

The SEC may cut corners on regulations and play loose with the rules, but I don't believe they trade wins for allowing sexual deviants on campus.

I am a Texan and have witnessed the Baylor fan base numerous times. When they are good (not often) they are an arrogant, unpleasant bunch.

Just Because:

I was thinking of a new thread to open discussion, but this is a related topic

Just because an insitution or an athletic dept or a police dept or a HC do not care to act socially responsible or with a degree of dignity, that does not give license to these kids to behave like animals. Even those who are not legit academically qualified students KNOW right from wrong! If they do not then the question is what kind of parenting is going on? Parents who condon this are enablers and as guilty if they defend their kid for such attitude of behavior. There are administrative failures by the respective social institutions but the Kids are the one who are commiting these 'criminal acts' ; let's not forget this! This is a society problem!

Correct!

Briles is just a continuation of coaches who have no decency and look the other way on anything just to win. He follows scumbags like Bowden, Osborne, Jumbo Fisher and far too many who do not belong in the game and whose memory should be remembered along the same grounds as Sandusky from Penn State.

If the NCAA ever starts paying players I hope they include a universal code of conduct that requires all payments made to be paid back immediately in cases of sexual abuse or failure to meet minimum educational requirements. I know it wont happen, but one can hope.

Wow, you managed to work both Bowden and Jimbo into the thread. You never fail to come through in the clutch. o_O

Probably wouldn't matter much. I'm guessing that, for the athletes who would fail at the two instances you mention, most wouldn't have any money left to pay anything back.

What rock do you live under? The SEC covers up for more sexual deviants than any conf in the country. Bama is doing it right now. Johnny Football ring a bell.

There is no bigger attempt at a school sponsored rape cover up than what FSU did with Wnston. The fact that both he and the school are still going to have to pay does not mitigate the fact that he belongs in jail, Jumbo should be fired and the program should be shut down for the transgressions from Bowden through Jumbo.

It's funny when not traditional schools start having great success, it's almost always followed by some kid of scandal or violations. Ole Miss all of a sudden is a top 5 recruiting school? Baylor dominating the state of Texas? Memphis basketball?

Makes me thing ND is really keeping things legit for the last 20 years, because they sure aren't winning like the 80's with Holtz.

I can't stand FSU, Jimbo or Winston. But I will never let my views of football get in the way of real life things like rape accusations & ruining somebody's life. As much as I don't like Winston I don't want someone charged with rape who didn't do it. That is pretty much the worse thing there is to be charged with you didn't do. If you look at the actual evidence, there is no way a grand jury was going to allow that to move forward. The accuser changed her story three times. Twice in the initial interview & couldn't even answer if sexual intercourse actually occurred.

I'm all for Winston, FSU & Jimbo being punished for the things they did, but I will never allow my love of ND to want an innocent person to be charged with rape if the facts don't suggest so.

Iowa Irish1.......

According to you're hypothesis that would explain the correlation coefficient between Lou Holtz' departure and the publishing of "Under The Tarnished Dome: How Notre Dame Betrayd Ideals For Football Glory".

None of the accusations have ever been proven. Basically ND admitted players who met ALL NCAA standards who wouldn't normally be admitted to ND. Once at ND they had to hold a GPA higher than what the NCAA mandated.

A student athlete having a GPA ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 is hardy tarnishing the Golden Dome. And the single, and still only, Level 1 violation against ND is a joke. The NCAA didn't even rule on it, they were so confused they hired a third party council of three people who voted 2-1 it was a violation, but still to this day haven't told ND what the violation is or how to prevent it in the future (which is required in the NCAA guidelines to do so).

What ND did under Holtz was the equivalent of a straight A student getting a B+ because he wanted to relax a little. Still a good grade but not good enough for his parents.

The poster you responded to is an insane person that has gone through 30+ usernames on Rivals. He is deeply disturbed. Basically on the level of a serial killer.

At the same time, props to you for being reasonable and looking at the actual evidence or lack thereof.

PS - I hate you too. :D

NDAFArly...........

Thank you for your response and explanation. Tis true the NCAA oft times seems confused.

That said, apparently Holtz and ND reached some kind of settlement that included his departure and silence on both sides. Maybe we'll find out more information after old Lou kicks the bucket? Or, maybe not?

I separate my football hate (which isn't actually hate) & real life hate.

I wish more people in sports can realize it is a game, fun to talk about, talk a little trash to each other, but that is it. No reason to wish bad on people or ruin someone's life.

We already know. It's in the sworn testimony during the case against Bob Davie for age discrimination. So there aren't theories, there is actual facts testified to in court. What's great about it is people aren't willing to lie under oath, so the truth came out.

Basically new administrators & Holtz clashed a lot. They wanted him gone. One administer even testified they didn't want Holtz to break Knute Rockne's wins at ND record (which he would have the next season, 7 wins away). They found a high ranking assistant to stab him in the back in exchange for the job. The witnesses were willing to admit all of this because none of it was illegal, so they wanted it to be clear during an actual case of a coach being fired illegally by Davies that they or Holtz did nothing wrong, they just didn't like each other.

A lot of the answers are in the testimony which pretty much exonerated Holtz of any wrong doing, & later ND administrators welcomed Holtz back which is why he is such a strong ND supporter again.

As for the Level 1 violation.

A player dated another student who was an athletic trainer at ND. Her family took them both on vacations over the holidays. The father had given $50 to the Quarterback Club, which was a small get together group & none of the menu went to the team.
The independent three person council voted 2-1 he was technically a booster with his $50 payment, so him paying for his daughter's boyfriend & her to visit was a violation.
The NCAA changed that rule because of it, the Quarterback Club was disbanded, & the NCAA gave no further instruction on improvement.

That's it. That's the story. Pretty boring.

the idea of a court room "not guilty" is not proof of innocence.
this intellectual exercise escapes nole(s) and why he/they lose credibility on all matters and thus 'forever.ignored' on any topic.

Farley,

The ONLY reason there wasn't enough evidence to take Winston to trial was because such evidence was surpressed and destroyed by Tallahassee Police, school officials and Jumbo.

Stay tuned, it's far fro over.

No, there is a thing called a "probable cause warrant" that a detective will file with a screening prosecutor before an arrest & State charges are made with sexual offenses.

During this process they don't need to have the normal amount of evidence, just enough for the screening proesecotor to file the charge. The detectives usually only need the accusers story & proof the defendant was there to get the warrant.

In a case such as this, the story is the key. The accuser changed her story twice in the initial interview & then a third time later. The detectives are usually very nice to the accuser & dont pressure them, but know that if the accuser can't get their story straight there is no way they wil make it through deposition by the defendants lawyers.

This is why the majority of these cases don't get filed, because the story of the accuser doesn't hold up under minimal scrutiny. People always say "the police cover it up" but the truth is the police do the interview & it's there job to ALSO protect the person being accused. If they feel there might be a crime they take the case to the screening prosecutor, but if they feel that the accuser is lying (or changing their story) they dont have to do anything. It's not a coverup, it's actually a good thing not to just go around charging everyone with felony sexual crimes just because of a story.

NDAFAarly.....

All you have to know is argus' estranged daughter attended FSU and he's never gotten over it. Insanity.

Duo,

Just a question with a sincere attempt to see if you can answer anything honestly.

Why persist with the "Argus" references? I have never even seen a post. And implying that my daughter went to FSU is even more disgusting than implying that you are less than a lying POS.

Other than those two blunders, all seems normal here.
