I confirmed with four-star wide receiver Ronan Hanafin that he made a stop at Notre Dame yesterday. He spent Sunday at Wisconsin, but he wanted to spend some more time at Notre Dame while he was in the Midwest.

Notre Dame is on spring break this week, so it's not an ideal time to visit, but Hanafin is already familiar with the campus atmosphere from his previous two visits for the Navy game in November and the prospect day in January. He was able to spend some time Monday with head coach Marcus Freeman and safeties coach Chris O'Leary and met defensive coordinator Al Golden for the first time.

Since his last visit to Notre Dame, Hanafin has added offers from Miami, Liberty and Virginia Tech. The Irish remain in a strong position in his recruitment. He really likes Notre Dame and is close with recent linebacker commit Preston Zinter.

The question has been whether Notre Dame will push for a commitment from Hanafin. With new wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey prioritizing some other wide receivers, the Irish seem more interested in figuring out where they sit with other targets at the position.

However, there is some interest in Hanafin as a defensive prospect as well. His athleticism could translate to safety or rover in Notre Dame's defense. Obviously, the Irish have two safety commitments already in Peyton Bowen and Adon Shuler, but they've been looking to add a third. Obviously someone like Caleb Downs, the top-ranked safety in the class, would be preferred, but Hanafin is a name to monitor as Notre Dame gets a better sense of where it stands with its top remaining targets.
