What if ND does not sign a DT this cycle? It seems that this is crucial to round out a solid defensive haul. Thoughts?

Right now.....I'm at a minimum of 3.

It doesn't look like they're going to. Too early to tell how this would impact ND in the long run, but it doesn't look good. They have a lot of young guys in the mix so from a depth perspective, ND could be okay, especially if they get 2-3 high quality DTs next class. The problem is that all the young guys on the team are unproven and most were 3 star guys, so its unlikely ND has got a Tuitt, Lynch, and Nix waiting in the wings.

Maybe ND will get help from a 5th year senior who can transfer and play right away. One option I wish they'd explore is the JUCO route. This is a perfect year to take a JUCO kid. The problem is that the credits/units a JUCO kid has may not meet the requirements for ND admission and you really want the JUCO kid to be able to transfer in time for spring ball, which is another difficult hurdle.

To answer your question, I'd give it a 4.

They signed a bunch last year and were only recruiting R. Gary for this class. Harbaugh/Hard##n has decided to employ his high school coach, his dentist, family doctor so he is probably going to get a community college degree at U.Michigan.

don't worry about our irish maybe not taking a DT in this class because they could hit the jackpot for d-line guys in the 2017 class. a name every recruiting fan should get to know is 6-2 280 2017 NV DT Haskell Garrett. he playes at Gorman bishop in vegas and is best friends with two of our freshmen from this past season that he played with at Gorman and because of that insiders they he could be on commit watch when he visits for junior day this month or in the spring247 has him as the #3 rated DT while rivals has him as the #6 rated DT. scout has him rated as the 3rd best DE. remember also that we have 2017 5 star DE Robert Beal committed

forgot to add another 2017 kid to keep an eye on.2017 5 star FL DE Josh Kaindoh is another name to rember because he is so high on our irish that he is really considering coming here. two of his teammates from IMG Academy will be true freshmen this fall. scout has him as the #1 rated WDE, #10 overall and rivalshas him as the #1 rated WDE, #14 overall. 247 has him also rated as the #1 rated WDE, #15 overall. signing Beal, Kaindoh and Garrett would give our irish three 5 star d-line guys in the 2017 class

If we land that, and its a decent chance, that'd be ridiculous on another level. ND doesn't land dlines like that but once in a great while.
And for those worrying about DTs this year, you better be ready for us not to. Other than Rashan Gary we don't even have 1 on the board and he isn't coming here.

Wasn't Nix a three star?
