A Notre Dame alumnus endowed the Notre Dame head football coach position with a $10 million donation, the school announced Thursday.

Richard Corbett, a graduate in the class of 1960, also donated $25 million to fund an academic building that will be home to the departments of anthropology, psychology in addition to holding a digital media center.

Both the women’s basketball and men’s lacrosse head coaching positions were endowed in February and May of this year, respectively.

“I’m honored and quite humbled to be a part of this incredible gift from Dick,” Irish head coach Brian Kelly said in a statement. “He has offered the University of Notre Dame and its football program an incredible gesture that will help so many people on this campus.”

Kelly’s compiled a 45-20 record in five seasons at Notre Dame. He led the football program to its first national championship appearance and undefeated season since 1988. The Irish fell to Alabama, 42-14. Notre Dame has posted 9-4 and 8-5 records in the two seasons since.

Thanks IrishBlooded. The endowment will help pay a portion of the Coach's salary (probably around $400,000 towards the coach's salary in year 1, and incrementally higher each year assuming good returns on the investment of the $10 million gift), so that's a good thing for sure.
