The OP is watching a different game than I am. I hate to say it, but St Brown does not deserve to start based solely on his play this season. He came in as our best receiver with lofty expectations, but he seems in a funk because he’s not getting the number of touches he expected. I appreciate that Wimbush has failed to see him on numerous plays when he worked himself open, and has throw poor passes when he does see him, etc... but St Brown has dropped several long balls, allows the DB to disrupt his routes early on, and has shown no inclination to go after and fight for the ball when needed. We need him to pull his head out and play to his considerable potential.
Claypool has been our best receiver and gets better every week. His blocking is off and on, as the announcers pointed out how he whiffed on a block yesterday that prevented a big gain on a jet sweep, and they also replayed him pancaking a DB on a TD run. He deserves to be starting.
Mack is getting better every game as well. He dropped one pass yesterday, but he is getting open a hell of a lot more than thrown to, and his blocking has improved weekly. I thought he and Wimbush were starting to develop some chemistry before Wimbush sat out this game, and I expect this will be evident the rest of the season.
I’d like to see Finke get more opportunity as he is the receiver version of McIntosh imho. Stepherson will start to emerge as the long ball threat he is, and Wimbush will benefit greatly from this, as will the other receivers. In terms of disappointing receivers, St Brown leads the list by a lot, and Mack was really disappointing the first two games, but the rust is coming off him and he is emerging.
