No. 5 Just win out.

If Clemson and Temple wins out, I would say ND controls its own destiny. #5 is about as good as spot as ND could be in with 1 loss. A road loss by 2 to the #1 team in the country and the play-off committee actually got it right. A loss is a loss no moral victories but it's pretty much a given that home field is worth 3 points. I would love a rematch with Clemson on a Neutral Field.

ND beats the Mark Mays this weekend and they will be in the top 4 next week since the loser of Bama/LSU will drop out.

Clearly we're riding high based upon our SOS. No other reason we're #5. Why Florida is so low, I have no idea.

Don't be surprised if there is quite a bit of shuffling next week. I think we need to be LSU fans. The SEC is getting a team in. Let's eliminate Alabama and we prevent 2 teams from the SEC. If Bama wins, I think LSU stays ahead of us.

I'm wondering what to expect in the future. Clearly our SOS is going to drop. Others are definitely going to rise. I am very concerned we might get "reverse Big-12'ved" this year (patent pending).

We might be ranked #4 in the next to last poll, and get leapfrogged in the final poll without that last conference championship win. I'm praying it doesn't happen, but don't assume the playoff rankings are static like the old polls.

Yeah, I wouldn't take too much away from our ranking right now. There are going to be a LOT of top 15 teams that will be losing in the next few weeks, and hopefully we won't be one of them. The only takeaway is that the playoff committee likes our body of work to this point, which is definitely a plus, but our SOS will take a hit until we play Stanford, so it's as high as it's going to be at this moment.

I'll start actively following the rankings the week of the Stanford game, if we still have 1 loss at the time. There's just too much that will happen between now and then to get too carried away.

If the teams that ND already played keep winning, their strength of schedule should improve, correct or am I wrong?

Presumably yes but other teams' strength of schedule may improve at a faster rate if their upcoming opponents have better records than ours.

You are correct. Temple, Navy and UOJ could all be ranked with Clem and Stanford. Texas could even help.
