Next Head Coach Candidates

they were not really an 8th ranked team. okla finished 15th in the nation that yr. they were ranked 8th when they played nd, but nd was not truly playing the 8th best team in the country.
Well then, if that's the case, USC did NOT just beat the 4th ranked team in the country by beating Washington. Let's see where U-Dub ends up and then you can say you beat the ______th ranked team in the country last night.

True. They probably beat a very good team. But we wont know how good uw is until the final rankings come put. UW could lose another. If I had to guess they might be more like the 10th best meant, but we can just asses that in early January.

Where would they have finished if we lost that game?

they would have finished higher. but they lost 3 times with a certain strength of schedule and that generally shows how good they were. solid win, but they were not the 8th best team in the country.

Are you really that dense?
Thanks for the complement. I've never been told I have complex levels of intelligence. Truth is I am common sense smart not a high intellectual but thanks anyway for the kind words

Glad if I was able to help you realize that character counts when it comes to Kelly and of course he is lacking big time. But I think you already knew that so I did not mean to offend you if I stated the obvious.

Nah, truth is you are just a bitcher and moaner like so many others here. Yous would rather have the local barber on the sidelines than Kelly.

My older brother is a genius and has no common sense. I, on the other hand, have $h!t for brains, but hold a PhD in common sense.

Go Irish, Fire Kelly!!!!

Of the coaches that are willing to leave their current job for ND + ND can afford, I think:

Craig Bohl -- Go watch his style of FB. It fits ND + he is winning at Wyoming.

or

Mike MacIntyre -- Go read his bio. How many coaches have failed at UC? Imagine what he could do with ND's talent base.

Being able to win at apathetic Colorado is saying something. That is impressive.

macintyre is a very good coach. they have the weakest talent the league and are doing well. another underrated guy out of the pac 12 is kyle whittingham. other coaches that would do well anywhere(although some might not want leave their current jobs are) swinney, patterson, fedora, malzahn, gundy, chryst, franklin, orgeron, herman, shaw etc. I am sure one of those guy would be a good fit.

Why do we keep making these threads? Kelly isnt leaving

I'm not 100% convinced he'll be back. I think JS said what he had to say to keep ND out of the news, keep the team interested, and keep the recruits from getting bombarded by other coaches.

That is what LSU fans said about Miles. If Kelly doesnt get to a bowl and loses out he deserves to lose his job. If recruits start bailing then something will have to be done sooner rather than later.

I think Swarbrick will give him at least one more year. Because they just signed him to an extension earlier this year, and it's only his first losing season. But next year: 10 wins minimum or he's out.

Don't you return most of your starters except for db's next year? You should be very good. Kelly has been up and down, but he has had some very good years.

Cole Luke is finished this season. Max Redford who would have played his last season this past season is obviously finished. Not sure if Devin Butler will be back next season. Luke is the only one of the 3 who played. Avery Sebastian also is gone but he didn't do a whole hell of a lot. Everyone else is very young but will have played a lot this past season.

So how many starters does nd return? not just guys who played a good amount, actual starters who play tons of minutes. usc returns almost everyone except 2 of their top 3 ot's( but sc is very deep and veteran on the oline next yr) and we probably lose juju smith and maybe adoree jackson to the pros. But the rest of the team comes back plus a class of about 23 freshman. I actually think Kelly is a good coach. He just needs the right situation to have a good team. He has been 12-1 and he was 10-3 last yr with a pretty brutal schedule. 4-6 is pretty bad. No idea what the problem is as nd has 4 stars at most positions.

We return a lot of people. Not sure the exact numbers. And the secondary should be better next year, since all these true freshmen playing this year will have more experience. Hopefully this year was just an anomaly. I'm hoping we can finish strong, beat VTech and give SC a good game.

Again, using Eric Hansen as a source, he said that out of the Seniors that will be celebrating Senior Day, only a few have no eligibility left. He gave the exact number but it escapes me. That doesn't mean they all will return. It doesn't mean none will go pro. It doesn't mean none will end their playing days all together, and it doesn't mean none will use their graduate transfer status. What it does mean is there is potential for many returnees to come out of that North Tunnel , Sept 2nd, against Temple.

It seems like kelly rebounds about every other year. by the way, I was a huge fan of jaylon smith and will fuller. i thoguht those guys made a huge difference las tyr. Smith was just incredible as a college player. Who are your best pro prospects this year that are underclassmen? If they are late round guys they may stay at nd.

I think it's 17 starters, or effectively starters, i.e. guys who are part of a regular rotation. Biggest concern is losing Jones and Rochelle from the DL IMHO. I guess McGlinchey too, though we will have far fewer false starts next year.

From what Hansen has said, Brandon has been getting tons of development at QB this season, just in case DK decides to go NFL. Apparently, BK doesn''t want to be left in a difficult situation as when EG left unexpectedly. Word is, BW looks solid. Just in case.
