It's Christmas season, time to make your (realistic) wish list:

1. Fleck
2. Rhule
3. Fitzgerald
4. Bohl
5. Schiano
6. Gundy

Someone like Les Miles would be disappointing. Coaches who fail at one program, or are looking for a lifeline, almost never pan out at their next stop.

No to Fitzgerald---and he hates ND anyway. Gundy lost to Central Michigan this season. Also, he played QB at Oklahoma State.

I am still on the Sanford wagon! best option for ND! trust me!
I really like Sanford also. I would go with him third.

1. Peterson from Washington(I know slim chance)

2. Charlie Strong. Great recruiter and EXTREMELY well liked by his players. Also Strong is considered a great coach among his peers.

And a little birdie told me that there are whispers of the name Chip Kelly being floated around up there in South Bend!

well

Any of those 3 would be absolutely Great!

but odds are extremely long it will be of those 3,

Petersen will cost 12-15 mill per

I'm on the youth train. Pj Fleck or Sanford. Roll the dice.

HC: Greg Schiano
OC: Mike Sanford (solo)
DC: Mike Elko

Quality. Realistic. Affordable (by ND's Standards). Credibility.

The only "young guy" I'd take a chance on is Fleck and only because he'll be a great recruiter. Still not sure about hos lack of experience though.

Could you imagine a recruting staff of Fleck, Sanford, Lyght, Denson and whoever Fleck brought with him?.. He'd almost certainly keep Sanford as his OC given the two have a great relationship.

You can't judge the potential of PJ Fleck based upon Brian Kelly any more than you can base it upon Ty Willingham or Charlie Weis. He is his own man. Judge him on his own merits as should be the case with Schiano or any one else.

Sanford has zero HC experience and that is a recipe for disaster. He may be ok as an OC but there are hundreds of coordinators that have failed as HC, they are different jobs.

I'm still on the Mad Hatter ride. He's got the name to keep much of this recruiting class intact and add to it. He will bring toughness back to the program. He's at an age that he won't coach much more than 5 years, anything more than that at ND is extremely difficult. He'll recruit well and leave the program in great shape for the next coach and ND will probably be a more attractive job at that point.

he is set in his ways....and would not conform to the Notre Dame template. Next.

So, at that point, Petersen would make at least $3-$5 million more than anyone else? Doubtful.[/QUOTE]

well, there are teams out there (Bama, LSU, tOSU) that are willing to go that high to get the great coaches.
if you wan in, that is what it will take.

and you know from biz experience the new hire always gets more than the long time loyal employee.

No to "I'm a man I'm 40 Gundy" OK State had a nasty SI printed about his tenure.

Bohls would be interesting

Hell no to Fitz

I'm going to toss a name out there Beau Baldwin, Eastern Wash coach, why not.

Who is Meyers?

at some point Saban and Meyer had -0- head coach experience; and Sanford has considerable experience.
You will destroy the recruiting class and set the program back 3 years if you fail on the blockbuster hire (Meyer or Petersen) and do not go with Sanford. believe it!

According to this board its Saban, Meyer, Peterson, John Gruden, Bill Cowher, Vince Lombardi's spirit brought back with a Ouija board, Bob Stoops, P.J Fleck, Pat Fitzgerald, Mike Gundy, Skip Holtz.

That is a small sampling. I have counted about 30 or so to date.

It's a joke.

Perse what is the risk of destroying the class as it stands now? You have already written that you didn't think the class was a terrible disappointment as it stands now.

I've seen Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw mentioned here, too.

Here's another name: Pat Narduzzi

He's done a pretty good job so far at Pitt, and he's a defensive-minded coach. His teams play tough, hard-nosed football.

I'm getting more hopeful about Peterson, though Carroll remains my preference. Outside of Meyer/Saban you can pull one out of a hat with equal pros and cons
