Interesting game

NEB had nothing to lose, but UCLA isn't that bad. Coach Reilly knows the PAC 10 so maybe that played into it , but still a major upset.

That PAC 10 has also done pretty good so far in their Bowl games, so this will taint their run as well

Does this win validate NEB's invitation?

Glad to hear it. Mora is a DB.

This is why the bowl season is unpredictable. There is a month between games and teams can go one way or the other. Sometimes they also are placed in a bowl game which they feel is beneath them and they simply go through the motions.

still pisses me off to see losing teams rewarded
Yep, and that goes for 6-6 teams as well. I hated it when ND accepted after a .500 season.

Then you can throw in 7-5 teams where two or three of the wins come against FCS schools. I love CF but this is getting ridiculous. The bowl season is becoming nothing more than an exhibition series.

I agree with this post and the other above it. I mean 80 teams got to go to a bowl game. It just loses the meaning when they say "well this conference had X amount of teams that went to a bowl". Who cares anymore? I just can not imagine that the sponsors, cities, etc can be making any $$ on most of these games. I watched some of the the WHO v. WSU and it looked like there were 100 people there.

that the play was reviewed AND the call upheld should be investigated! The whole world EXCEPT a small group of men saw this very differently!brings back the call in the ND/FSU game where the players battled for 59 minutes and approximately 50 seconds but then the game as decided by what may have been single personal agenda.

Absolutely NOT targeting. If anyone initiated the incidental helmet to helmet it was UCLA's Perkins. But that is football today. Trying to take contact out of a contact sport, penalty after penalty, review after review, no fluidity to the game. Oh well.

I remember when bowl games did not have the sponsor's name in them - it was just Peach Bowl, Orange Bowl, etc. Putting the sponsor's name in front of the bowl's name is probably why there are so many these days - it's all about the Benjamin's ;)

What I find interesting is a team who managed to get into the Bowl selection mix did it with their academic because their football record was so poor beat a regarded team in their back yard

If you are not a fan of all these bowls...... don't watch. I think its funny when people say we are "rewarding" teams for .500 records. Its not like Nebraska is going to hang a banner in Memorial Stadium to honor the 2015 team.

On another note, I was shocked as to how few fans were in attendance. Maybe a lot of fans took my advice and decided to not attend because they do not care.

I am old enough to remember when it was only the Rose, Cotton, Orange and Sugar Bowls as the majors; with the Liberty, Gator, Sun, Peach and Astro Bluebonnet. And If I recall correctly that was all there was in the 70's. 9 bowls 18 teams. Now that was probably too few but I would draw the line at about 30 teams or 15 bowls.

it validates Nebraska getting a bowl invite and Pac 12 getting left off 4

I'm not sure why the result validates either of those points. At 5-7, Nebraska did not belong in a bowl game. Period. And what does the fact that one member of the Pac 12 lost an inconsequential bowl game have to do with the merits of any of the other 11 teams?

It's not that surprising. Upsets happen all the time and Nebraska was a pretty good 5-7 team, having lost a bunch of close games and beaten Michigan State. But I still don't like teams with losing records making bowl games.

But on the other hand, bowls can invite whomever they want. If they think they can make money hosting a bowl game, they'll host it - it's all about the $$.

To be awarded the invitation because of academics reasons is a plus if teams with losing records are to fill the void

supply / demand --- I don't understand the economics of these games where the stands are not full and WHO is watching but if a bowl can make money, they are welcome to set a good match up. It's just another game. Romanticizing the Bowl Hierarchy delayed the "playoff" for too long.

Like baseball, the attendance is irrelevant. It's the TV revenue that counts.

You and I could start a bowl and call it "Nothing but Losers Bowl" and if we could get a sponsor and a TV contract we would be good to go. Oh yeah, and at the gate there would be no charge. Fans get in FREE and they would receive a free hot dog to boot compliments of a meat sponsor. Of course, beers are $9 apiece...........you know the normal thing! Or, fans could get ticket for a FREE BEER compliments of a beer sponsor and the place would be packed! Bwahahahahahaha!

One of the worst aphorisms that has taken root in sports fans' vernacular is, "You are what your record says you are." No, you're not. Were the Packers 9-7 "good" when they won the Super Bowl a few years back with a red hot Rodgers? Were the Seahawks really a non-playoff team when they were 2-4 early in the season even though they had led at some point in EVERY game for 3 and half years? NO. And Nebraska was better than its record.

Take a look at the advanced efficiency stats and the power index. They all point to Nebraska being a top 35-40 team and deserving of a bowl. They were incredibly unlucky this season to lose as many games as they did. Good for Nebraska.
