I know I'm getting ahead of myself but just sitting here dwelling on how Hiestand has changed the off. unit so much. For ND to be successful on offense, they need a great frontline. Hiestand continues to put the pieces in place for that. Imagine the future unit of Kraemer,Eichenberg,Boudreaux,Mustipher, Byrne, Ruhland,Hoge,Bars,Nelson and that's not counting 2017 recruits. Kudos to Coach Hiestand for helping ND to become a title contender again.I know I didn't count the seniors to be but I was looking a little more past that. That a great unit to protect Kizer,Zaire and Wimbush.Any qb would love that protection. Again, thanks Harry!!!

What about McGlinchey,Elmer? We are basically set on offense even with the loss of Stanley and Martin,C.Brown,Carlisle .

Defense is going to be a challenge . Day ,Smith,Schmidt ,Okwara ,Shumate are huge losses .Is Rochell coming back? Is K. Russell coming back? Does Jarron Jones return to form ? Does N. Morgan a very highly recruited LB ready to step up full time? How about Greer Martini,Trumbetti,Onwualu .They are going to step up . DB Tranquill and DT Blankenship will help a lot. Hayes will add depth to defensive line . These players are really going to have to perform in 2016

I believe McGlinchey,McGovern,Elmer and Bivin will be seniors next year. I was looking past that class.

All of those guys will seniors, but with the exception of Elmer, all of them have 5th years. That's how it should be if you recruit well. If you're taking 3-4 OL each year, you hope to get one elite 1 that likely plays right away and the rest of them develop and have the ability to be in the system for 5 years. That's how you build continuity and depth at a position within the program.

2016 Offense

QB: Deshone Kizer or Malik Zaire
2. Deshone Kizer or Malik Zaire

RB: C.J. Prosise
2. Tarean Folston

WR: Will Fuller
2. Jalen Guyton

2. CJ Sanders

WR: Equanimeous St. Brown
2. Corey Robinson

TE: Aliz'e Jones
2. Durham Smythe

LT: Alex Bars
LG: Quenton Nelson
C: Sam Mustipher
RG: Steve Elmer
RT: Mike McGlinchey

7. Hunter Bivin
8. Colin McGovern

2017 Offense

2. CJ Sanders

WR: Corey Robinson
2. Miles Boykin

TE: Aliz'e Jones

RG: Colin McGovern
RT: Mike McGlinchey

7. Tristen Hoge
8. Tommy Kraemer

Obviously things will happen that will shake this projection up, but as of right now I can't predict what they'll be. Some guys will forgo their 5th year of eligibility, other young guys could step up and the 2016 recruiting class isn't even complete yet so that could factor in as well... Regardless, ND's offense will be in good hands for years to come.

Good post IIO.

Defensively, ND should look like this in 2016.

DE: Isaac Rochell
DT: Jerry Tillery
NG: Jarron Jones
DE: Andrew Trumbetti
LB: James Onwualu
LB: Nyles Morgan
LB: Te'Von Coney
CB: Cole Luke
FS: Max Redfield
SS: Avery Sebastien
CB: KeiVarae Russell (I hope he knows what's good for him)
NB: Shaun Crawford

ND will be stout up front in 2017, and hopefully a veteran secondary will be a strength instead of a weakness. The linebackers will be very talented, but inexperienced. A guy like Greer Martini will certainly factor into the equation as well.

IIO...interested in your view as to why the development dynamic you describe in your post applies more to offensive linemen than their counterpart on the defense, and arguably equal to or more than any other position? My limited view is that OL positions require a hell of a lot more understanding of the offense and communication than most would ever imagine, and today's game just requires a degree of bulk and strength that takes a few years to develop. Never played or coached the positions, and would appreciate your view.
