ND has opened as a 3.0 to 4.5 favorite depending on the oddsmaker.

Consensus is a 3.5 favorite.

Let’s see what happens in the next 115 days

Are you willing to entertain some action based on your line ?
I meant that websites are putting Texas AM as -1 to -1.5 favorites; not my personal opinion. Fanduel and Draft Kings has AM as the favorite.

At +1, I like ND for the time being.

My site currently has TAM as a 1.5 favorite.

Every poll I’ve seen has ND ranked higher than TAM, ergo favoring TAM over ND would seem counterintuitive.

A critical question would seem to be:
How would losing the opener impact and alter the rest of the season, panic or calm ?

It's early May.

Game looks like a pickem. I would not bet either side with so much uncertainty (Irish largely new offense and Aggies new coach). But the under 50 seems like a winner. Two former defensive coordinator head coaches, and two new offensive coordinators who (while innovative) will be trying to figure out what works. Aggies have a talented defense and ND has an elite defense. I would not bet anything that cuts against the Irish scoring a gazillion points, but that under seems like a live pick.

The game is in August and it will be as hot as the sun. A and M is a very hostile environment and some of the most annoying fans in the country. Elko will have the d ready...but ND should have a field day against their oline.

The fanbase and this forum would have a complete meltdown. I believe the coaches, players, etc. would be calm.

A loss would seem to place a significant hurdle in terms of ND getting to the playoffs.

I think it would also place a great deal of pressure on the coaching staff

Lots of turnover on both teams. The odds are purely speculative this early.

I don't get all the hype for A&M at home. The RC Slocum days are long gone when the 12th man and playing at home meant something. Since 2014 they have had one year (2020) where they had one loss. All other years have been 4,5,6 losses. Last year was 5-7. Sumlin and Fisher couldn't produce. I don't see Elko coming in year one and all of a sudden producing a power house. I just don't see it. Currently ND is getting +1, not sure where patty cakes is getting his info. I think ND wins by 7-10 points.

If we were going to lose a game next year I would rather it be early in the season than late. I think it’s a close game but ND pulls away late in the 4th. Jmo.

If we lose one game next year, regardless if its early or late, we'll be hosting a Playoff game in South Bend

My preference though is that it's not the first or last game. Waiting so long for the season to start and getting an L the first game sucks so bad. Also, losing to USC in the Final game would suck and having a loss right before the Playoffs wouldnt be ideal

Fanduel has A&M favored by 1.5. I'll take the +1.5 all day long. A&M has lost so many players, that #1 class 3 years ago is a shell of itself. ND will win this game.

I expect a tough game. Would be shocked if Elko doesn’t have his team ready. Notre dame probably needs close to its A game if they are going to win.

Weigman can sling it

They probably have the most pure talent of any team we'll play all season. Elko is a very good coach and he knows Leonard. Its game 1 at night in a hostile environment and in the heat.

Will be a tough game. I expect a lower scoring game

IMO, USC does.

Sounds scary! ND by 10-13 pts. I'm not feeling the hype of the 12th man, a new coach, and the pure talent of a 5-7 football team.

Complete Melt Down. You already know.

Coaching may very well decide this game also. I think Elko may be a better head coach ( right now ), but we have the better coordinators and position coaches.
