I would love to see this happen but I don't think it will if Clemson goes undefeated. If say Baylor, TCU, Bama, Fla, OSU, etc all have one loss then I don't think the committee will want to go for a rematch. But who knows I didn't think OSU would get picked last year.
with the current setup the 4 'best teams' will not be in the playoffs. But the goal is to find the best team in the country. So a conference may have 3 of the best teams, but only 1 is their 'best team', so then they are put up against the other 'best' teams from other conferences and Independents. The objective is to find the 'best of the best', not to put the 4 best in a tourney.
Assuming that we go undefeated the rest of the season, I would like to see us play the number one team in the country. If we lose one or two more games, then I really don't care whom we play against as long as we play in a decent bowl against a decent higher ranked ream.
It has all the reasons to see a rematch and potentially help Notre Dame get in the playoff.
There is a huge issue with your projection though. Fla state is winning against Clemson. I hate fsu and wish they lost every game lol.....but are athletic enough on offense to score a lot against Clemson.
Fsu can run the football too. No matter how quick Clemson can score they can't score if they don't have the ball.

Would probably be the semifinal. #1 Clemson vs #4 ND. I think that would be a possible determining factor in ND getting in provided they go 11-1 of course. The NCAA could see BIG $$$ and ratings for that match up.
Yes, but only in the national title game. ND has the talent to win it all. The problem is they don't have the coach for that big moment.
