ND loss vs Bama loss

Bama got stomped by Ole Miss at home, and against Tennessee - needed a TD with 2 mins left and the Tennessee kicker to miss three field goals in a 5 pt win over the Volunteers. They are just slightly better than LSU in the passing game and their running game is not dynamic. Derek Henry lacks speed and can be stymied.
stomped ? what game were you watching ? you must think nd got stomped by Clemson then.

Clemson fan here. Pulling for you all. Would be honored to have the Irish join the ACC coastal, Miami to hire a quality coach and the ACC have FSU, Clemson, ND and Miami as the top 4. The SEC could kiss it.
Question: will you all wish you were in the coastal if you beat Stanford and get left out. A championship game win would assure you get in. Thoughts?
Good point, an ACC Championship game win would definitely put us into the NC game. But independence is part of our DNA and it will take more than getting left behind this year to change that. It may get us PO'd but not enough to join the ACC.

the SEC in general is way over rated by most this year. LSU's deficiency is obvious to all after the bama game. and LSU should have also lost to miss state earlier in the year and even Western Kentucky had a chance to beat them late in the game.

Alabama's run defense certainly looks the part. but the offense is iffy....and their pass defense is their weak point (don't be surprised if Miss State beats them sat)

Florida is the best defense in the conference but their offense is almost as bad as it was last year...hell they struggled to a 9-6 win over an completely impotent Vanderbilt team.

the other conference that's hard to figure is the big 12. potent offenses abound but the defense is pretty feckless. id love to see a match up of say LSU vs Baylor in a bowl game just to get an exact measure of how bad Baylors defense really is...as well as LSU's over all offense. Oklahoma may yet still wind up winning that conference but its more likely ok st/Baylor winner will

anyway at this point my top four are

Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama but I think at the end of the year in order chosen by the committee it will be Clemson, OK, State Notre Dame, ....and while they wont deserve it LSU...as I don't see anyone on their schedule that will beat them....and I don't see anyway both the the Big Ten and SEC doesn't get at least one team in. if Iowa wins out...it would be interesting to see if the committee would bump the Irish or LSU

I think Iowa going undefeated and in the playoffs would be a huge disappointment for all of college football. And I gotta tell you I think Iowa going unbeaten is not impossible. They play Minnesota, Purdue, and Nebraska in their next 3 games. Then they just have to beat likely either MSU or OSU in the championship game and I don't think either of those two teams are playing great football right now.

Doesn't AL play MS St. this week? That might be a little more interesting than many think. The Dogs aren't intimidated by Bama and Bama just came off of a huge week against LSU.

Bro, you're not being a realist nor are you being objective. Ole Miss did not beat Bama down, the Tide outgained them but was -5 in turnovers. Bama would smoke them if they played again. Bama is dominant in the running game and DH is the real deal, 240lbs running sub 4.5s, is he Leonard? No, but who is? The Bama defense this year is much better in the back end then last year, maybe the best punter in CFB, good KO return and coverage units. Only weakness is their PK, and some inconsistencies in the passing game, but those 5 star freshman and sophomore WR'S are starting to play much better now.

On one hand it's easy to say Bama is playing best football in the country right now. On the other hand it's easy to say they almost lost at home to a bad Tennessee team just two games ago.

To be clear, their wins have been good. But their loss was at home to an iffy Miss team and they looked bad against Tenn two games ago.

ND had a bad game (but a win) on the road in wk 2...while dealing with various personnel changes and then a 2 pt road loss to the now #1 team...since then have 4 solid wins against teams with a total of 8 losses (4 of them delivered by ND).

I'd put Clemson, Bama, and ND all in the mix for playing the best football right now.
