Miami is NOT this good. ND is playing scared! Miami struggled to beat a NC that ND crushed.

Cause this how they always show up and play in these types of games. It almost seems like they expect it. And it's not just under Kelly. It has been like this under everyone since Holtz.

Gotta get a stop. Need a play any play. Shell shocked right now. Gotta get control before it's out of hand. A lot of young players in secondary look overwhelmed right now. Offensively need to push forward and run between tackles to neutralize speed. Being too cute and wimbush has deer in headlights look.

This game isgoing to in hand bythe 3rd QTR. I have that on good authority!

Stay the course.

Oh, I stand by that. ND is the better team. Get a TD on this drive and a couple stops before half

Let’s hope their adrenaline wears off soon. Irish are a notorious level headed team, like a golfer: not too high and not too low. That costs them at times at the start of games. But Miami will gas out. I hope.

ND is not scared. ND is just getting its ass kicked. It happens. Look at Georgia Auburn or Ohio State Iowa last week.

I get what you are saying. The only difference IMO is that it happens every time that ND is in a big game like this. How often does that happen to OSU? If that were the case with ND I would be right there with you. However, over the last 20 years this has become a trend for ND in games like these.

We are getting beaten because Miami is faster than us. The coaches haven't failed to prepare the team for a loud crowd and a hyped up team. They are just better than us.

I agree with you and that's exactly why this program will not be an elite team in college football. Because ND will constantly be exposed by teams that have talent and speed across the board.

But I don't think we necessarily wilt under the bright lights. We played FSU very well in 2014 and just got screwed by a ref who was going to call offensive interference no matter what happened. In 2015 we made a lot of mistakes to dig a deep hole against Clemson, but hung in there. I happen to think Kelly made a blunder going for 2 too early in that game, but the team did not fold.

We have been pounded by USC a couple of times, but those have been bad teams or ones that had been decimated by injury.

But yeah, the speed thing is a big deal. And until we run an offense that can make use of our strength and neutralize defensive speed, we will never be great.

And allow me to add: It's a bad habit to shape your opinions of ND football based on what you read on this board.

I don't base it on what I read here. When I look at it that's how it looks. It's not that ND doesn't get any top talent. They get enough that with good coaching they should be a good team year in and year out. I just don't ever see them being able to close the talent gap on teams that can recruit elite talent. So, they will get outplayed in games like the one tonight.

As I said on the game thread, speed kills. Until we get faster, we are not going to get better.

Faster? Lol. We need a turnover chain. Lmfao. Was Miami faster than us the last few times? Is North Carolina faster than us? Ridiculous. Keep listening to herbie. When these kids go to the combine, compare the speeds. A Ferrari getting passed by a work truck just tells you who has more desire to get somewhere. Some of these guys don't look like they want be there. Tillery shouldn't be on the D line.

Believe what you want to believe. But the glaring weakness of ND has been lack of speed.

People didn't believe it when Georgia stopped us cold, but everytime we tried to run wide, they had two guys there. Miami has been doing the same thing all night.

Tillery plays like a hibernating grizzly bear that couldn't work his way out of a wet paper bag with 5" razor sharp claws.

Has it ever occurred to you that sometimes the other team is just better?

I personally think Tillery has had a very good season. The entire team got whipped on both sides of the ball tonight.

Miami was just better.

Agreed. "Playing scared", "playing not to lose", "coming out flat", etc, are all BS things fans write in an effort to make themselves sound knowledgeable.

Miami played their best game of the year by far. Hats off to them.

Nope. Played minor ball, but played high level hockey my whole life. This team reminds me of the kid every hockey player knows. Has all the talent, is the quickest kid on the team, but against tough competition, they won't go in the corners and almost disappear completely. Speed doesn't mean a thing. They aren't that much faster. Keep believing that. It is an attitude/mentality. Remember Aaron Lynch?

Speed means a shitload. Ask Lou Holtz or Jimmy Johnson. To say that ND got its ass handed to it because its players don't play hard enough is absurd. There are emotional ups and downs, of course. See last year when we developed a losing mentality early in the season.

But these guys know what was at stake tonight and to say that they threw in the towel because they didn't have the mental toughness required is just ignorant.

They got beat tonight because the other team was better. Not 41-8 better, but you turn the ball over and allow an emotional team to feed on it and bad things happen.

Simply watch the game again. Watch both of our lines. Our guys play like gentle giants. Yes, we had mistakes all over the place, but the trenches are the foundation.

tonight was the Irish's bad game of the yr. Just like when we crushed SC. watch the canes lose next week lol. big letdown game for them next week. ask OSU about that one lol. what is funny is all the talk about the canes are back like it is the 80's again sheesh. Bama will smash their butts if they get to championship game. just like they would have done to us. so settle down with the something is back after one win over a one dimensional Irish team. no great team this yr in college football. and good luck beating bama in the championship game. glad I won't have to witness another one of those beat downs again.

Most vulnerable Bama team in years. Some of it due to injuries, but I agree with most of what you say
